hehe. i mean they're close enough together that i can see why this is a trip. its basically just going to be sightseeing, bus, sightseeing, bus for 18 days straight. for people that dont want to plan this can be a good deal, but just know that everything is so cheap there that you can probably chart your own path and be under $2.2k, but you wouldn't know where to go if you dont research.

honestly people it's so cheap over there just go! Bring one bag with the essentials...don't even check luggage. go to the tourist place where ever you fly into and start exploring. A little preplanning is ok to know where is SE Asia you want to go but don't bind yourself to flights and locals unless you absolutely can't miss them. Just go...hopefully with no real end date. You will find your ways around. Once you get to the first touristy area start making friends/see where they've been/listen to experiences/then decide on your itinerary.

Preplanning a SE Asia trip ruins it...go for it/wing it/and enjoy the adventure. This 17 day trip sounds miserable and expensive. Keep in mind a room is $20 and food under $5.

Not really is common.
You will be given separate room, while those traveling with friend/partner will be both in same room.

This is the perfect trip if you have a month to live and have always wanted to see Vietnam, Thailand, amd Cambodia.

Otherwise fly r/t to BKk and in the middle do as much as you like.

i'd stay away from the area at this point...too dangerous. scam centers are outrageous there https://www.vice.com/en/article/n...rafficking

given the cost, and the risk, so many other places on the planet to visit than this.

If you like staying in dump hostels maybe.

That said, if you're a seat of the pants person, planned trips aren't for you.

I don't disagree, but its really not that bad considering you actually spend multiple nights in each city. I did this trip on public transportation over a 6 week period (with more stops) and this a pretty logical itinerary path. Having prearranged will make this feasible and a relatively relaxing on the trip between cities.

Also it's really a great deal price wise considering what flights from the US to SEA cost now.

I'm sure they can get to where they need to go.

I've literally always said Thai, Cambodia (the food there looks amazing) and Vietnam would be my dream trip... Unfortunately I know this would undoubtedly not be wheelchair friendly. I can dream and look though!

No, hotels can be had for around $15-30, depending where.

Example in Hanoi [google.com]
Hotel in Bangkok [google.com]

It's not really dangerous at all as a tourist. If anything, a lot of these countries want tourism because westerners bring money to the region. The article you linked has nothing to do with someone visiting the country for vacation.

I haven't done this yet, but a good start would be to take the detailed itinerary from a tour like this, and add/subtract as you learn more. Or just literally do what the itinerary is if you don't have the time or desire to do any research.

Yeah, I'm always tempted when I see deals like this to SE Asia, but then I realize the flight is the most expensive portion (can get a deal for maybe $800?) and everything else is very cheap in comparison. It just requires some planning, flexibility, time, and travel confidence. I guess the main value of these tours is paying more to be able to turn the planning part of your brain off while on the trip.

I've been to Vietnam 11 times since 2004. I was just there for three weeks in April. I've never paid more than 25 a night, which included a buffet breakfast. Most are cheaper. Food costs are around 10 to 20 a day, max. Transportation is easy and cheap. Depending on what you can get airfare for, it's much cheaper to do it on your own. I backpacked in Thailand for a year, back in the 80's, when it was dirt cheap.

What is the American equivalent of a $25 Vietnamese hotel?
