An additional driver that is side firing (small performance upgrade).

I attached a picture for comparison. Top is Q990B rears and Bottom is 9500s. They look more similar in person as that was just the lighting. Physically, the 990B rears have some tapering of flat sides and a raised look to them.

I don't have them in the same room, I just haven't moved the Q800B and 9500s yet after unboxing.

So other than the rears, this 900C speaker bar is different from the 990C speaker bar?
I'm still waiting to receive mine but everything I've seen I think the bar and the sub are the same

Delivered yesterday and picked up the 9500S for 120 at best buy as well. Set it up yesterday and this thing is a beast. Watched John Wick 4 in 4k HDR w/Atmos, used Space Fitting, and turned up the rear volume a bit. Overall for the price this thing is pretty great. Had a previous promo code, 10% CB, and $50+ Samsung points to put towards the $500 price, bringing my total for that down to $376 after taxes. The 9500s came to 130 minus $5 GC I had. Total cost came to $500 for a decent soundbar system 9.1.4 overall. It's virtual and can never compare to a real AVR but to unexperienced and untainted ears by AVR, this is fantastic.

I actually have a Q990C as well, and while that definitely sounds better and the base is deeper, louder, and overall the additional 2 channels side firing for the rears does make a difference, the disparity is nearly negligible.

Just don't expect AVR quality surround and atmos experience, and appreciate it for what it is, virtualize high sound and spatial manipulation to achieve something good for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
Did you order Thursday? Mine hasn't shipped yet now I'm getting worried haha.

It sure seems like they are different from his review...

They look identical. Same length and width. The bottom side looks slightly different. I can't tell by weight if they are diff, maybe the 990C feels slightly heavier, not sure tbh. Subwoofers look exactly the same, dimensions and design wise. Honestly couldn't tell the difference between the Q990C and Q900C bar and woofer, I'm sure there's a slight difference on the internals, definitely on the software. The rear speakers are the major obvious difference. The Q990C is hooked up to a 85QN90B, and Q-Symphony works great. The Q900C is currently hooked up to a much older TV, so no Q-Symphony there. Overall, if I could return the Q990C, I would have. I would have replaced it with the Q900C w/9500S in a heartbeat for the price point, sound, quality, and features.

Also for smarthings app, the Q990C allows for channel volume control for the rear speakers. When I hooked up the 9500S to the Q900C, I was unable to see channel volume for the 9500s on the app. I had to use the remote control to do that.

My review specifically only notes the diff in the rear speakers (9500S and 990C), with the side firing. I didn't indicate any difference between the bars. So idk how you drew that conclusion about the bars.

Yeah ordered on June 8th at 13:03, got the email it shipped that same day at 15:41. So it was super fast. I was concerned it would end soon, so I didn't even bother to double check the shipping address that always defaults to my work rather than home. So I was surprised to see it delivered there.

"I was unable to see channel volume for the 9500s on the app".
That is weird since I can control the my 9500 speakers ( paired with Q800b) from the app! Just to make sure, when you are on the "Channel level" screen, did you swipe left to see all the channels?

It is indeed there now! I removed the device from my app, then re-added it, and now it shows the rear channels volume control. Thank you!

Thanks for the extra details and glad you were able to get the rears to show up in the app for you! I'm looking forward to it!

Was hoping with the item being back in stock the deal would be back…but nope. Such a bummer - I ended up ordering the 800C but if this deal comes back I am on it (hopefully I see it in time).
