I watched it so others don't have to. TLDW: most dishwashers do a pre-wash rinse cycle for 15 minutes or so, which gets most of the big particles, then drains. Most dishwashers also have a location in the detergent door for pre-wash detergent. Pod users will likely ignore the pre-wash as it's often a small compartment that wouldn't fit a pod, and if it did fit the pod, that'd be two pods per wash cycle ($$). Since the pre-wash is then done without detergent, whatever detergent (pod) is used has to work harder and dishes are not as clean.

Yep, if you are using pods you law as well just always use quick wash and skip the pre-rinse cycle. I switched to powder as well.

You realize these are just compressed powder right? Something is wrong with your dishwasher if it runs water through the system for 30 minutes and doesntt dissolve dishwashing powder,.

I have used exclusively Finish tablets since I got my newest washer...not even these fancy quantum ones but just the regular 3 in 1. I always do a long first rinse cycle. I put white vinegar in the rinse aid container a few times a month... everything has been spotless and the washer stays clean. I do keep a box of generic powder to put a couple of TBS in the bottom if I have a particularly grimy or greasy wash but I'm not sure ot even matters. My last washer was weaker and didn't matter what detergent I used it never got them as clean as the new washer. My repairman cautioned me to never ever use gel products as it gums up the works over time, and as mentioned before it can't contain the same components as a dry product due to the killing of enzymes. Since he works on them every day, I took his advice. He did agree powder was probably best but pods are acceptable.

I use white vinegar in the clothes washer as fabric softener/color fast type addition and it keeps clothes from fading and the washer clean. Neither the dishwasher nor clothes/washer smells like vinegar when done. Just to say I really think the brand and design of dishwashers is more important for cleaning than your choice of detergent, in the end. So Some of y'all are going to try everything and not get great results (as I did until I got a new washer.). Just my .02. Try the vinegar!
