I've had SoFi for nearly a year now and it's been pretty great. I would recommend using them.
Same, started with just savings mainly due to the APY at the time being higher than my AmEx HYSA (I think there was a $75 SD cashback that stacked w/the $250 SUB). After using it for a few months I liked it enough to switch my checking and most of my automatic payments for bills over to them as well, and now they've sucked me into the whole ecosystem. Signed up for the credit card because of the 3% CB promo for the first year, started auto-depositing money to Invest and play around a bit with single stocks since you get a modest $1 bonus for each deposit (up to 3x per week), I find Relay helpful for keeping tracking of your monthly spending/saving as well as other accounts/investments and net worth, I'll usually glance through the news feed daily and find some articles I'm interested in reading (although it seems like a lot of them are behind paywalls unfortunately, would be nice if they could just filter those out), etc. I've read some horror stories and am a bit hesitant getting one from a bank that doesn't have a local branch if something does go wrong, but seriously considering them for a mortgage here in a year or so as well, when I checked the rates recently they seemed very competitive.

Another thing I really like is ACH transfers are always crazy fast. I don't know what they do different than other banks, but any transfer I initiate from SoFi usually posts within 24-48 hours on business days. It's nice being able to move money around between accounts so quickly and not have to wait a week for it to show up like some banks.

I can understand peoples' gripes if all they want is a checking and/or savings account and nothing more, though. The app can be kind of "busy" in that case, although I thought you could turn some of that marketing stuff off too, and obviously emails are easy enough to unsubscribe from. But at the end of the day, SoFi's whole schtick is a one-stop-shop for online finance. How they increase their ARPU and make more money is by selling you more services and debt products. If you want just a simple high APY savings account, there are honestly probably better choices out there. SoFi's APY is usually competitive, but not even the highest either.

4.3% is not impressive at all. Any bank that offers you <5% is greedy.

Is there something stopping you from signing up for the bonus and then just closing the account?

I've been with SoFi since it was the Samsung Money account, and I've been overall very happy with the service. The interest rates on the savings account are very competitive, and the app is easy to use. I also appreciate the low cost of the investment app, even with PFOF. Overall, I would recommend SoFi to anyone looking for a financial services company with good products and low fees.

I've been with SOFI about 4 months, switching over from BOA. The info on the bonus criteria is easily found online in their support articles. This was a no brainer decision for me because of zero account fees, unlimited savings withdrawals and the interest rate bonus. Their savings account also has this cool feature that allows you to categorize money into individual "vaults" that you name so you can prioritize your savings for whatever you want. I didn't have a BOA branch or ATM where I lived so it always sucked if I needed to get cash. SOFI uses Allpoint ATMs which are found in most Walgreens and CVS stores so it's easy to find a location anywhere. I also have been using the credit card that comes with a year of 3% cash back and no foreign transaction fees and have been perfectly happy with the features within their app. It's fairly easy to turn off all the marketing communications. After all the fees BOA charged for a subpar banking experience I've been super satisfied with SOFI SOFAR

Their website is very limited in function. They basically force you to use their app if you need to do non-basic banking tasks. Just FYI.

You aren't kidding about the inter bank transfer speed. I did a transfer last week and it posted to my other bank same day (and the bank said it was available to use).
