Watching old content on disc, installing old software on disc, making physical backups as a redundancy for critical files like financial information or family photos.

This is 8x for DVDs, and up to 24x for CDs.
It's a slimline or laptop-style drive, which aren't as fast as full-size desktop optical drives.

I remembered my last cd drive is 24x. This is only 8x read and write, someone going to have a fun time backing up all their old cds/dvds to digital media.

I still have software I use on CD, ya older versions but still work fine
ITs a PITA to hook up a internal player to re install it.
I may have to jump on this,
EDIT: Good reviews, Got 1

Medical offices use this to review images (X-rays, MRI, etc) patients bring in on disc. Films are very rarely used now

Better to use a flash drive to install an OS. Much faster.
