I strongly recommend getting irons used on eBay. A lot of people use them for a season and sell them. 5 years ago I bought a pair of jpx 900 forged w stiff KBS tour shafts for 400.

I got these for an absurd deal from a local fitter, he was forced to buy a bunch of prebuilt clubs and was unloading them for more or less cost.

That said, these clubs are awesome for someone who shoots in the 90s like me. My only complaint with these is the variance between an average shot and perfect shot is so large. For me an average hit with the 7i is 145-150 yards but then I suddenly find the dead center of the face and it's 170 yards.

Also a few folks were talking poorly about the 4i but I really like it, I think a lot of players would be surprised by how easy it is to hit.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger. My last clubs were like 10 years old. I don't plan on changing so might as well pull the trigger

This 4 iron in this set is 19 degrees, which is very low and similar to most 3 hybrids. Most players will have trouble elevating a 19 degree iron and will be better suited to a hybrid or 7 wood in that range, but you could sell the 4 iron on eBay and get $100 or so I would expect.
It's a 19 deg. 4 iron to balance out the 'game improvement' characteristics of the iron. These irons are pretty beefy, with wide soles and the weight very low in the head. They launch very high, so the loft is stronger to counteract that.

This 4 iron should be as easy, or not easy, to hit as a 23 deg. 4 iron.

LoL most players have trouble elevating anything after 7 iron

Ease of the shot is more than just loft and a club head design. In general most average weekend warriors simply don't have the swing speed for a 4i or 5i. So most Will find the gapping from 7i down tends to go the same or close to the same distance. And when I refer to distance I only speak about carry distance, not roll out. Same reason why most people can't hit 3w or 5w.

Heads-up that if you prefer a different grip or wrap config you'll end-up spending another $100 or so to get the stock ones changed-out.. and - if you want different shafts (+1 for fitting idea) then you'll end-up way ahead paying $1100 to 2nd Swing or wherever to buy exactly what you need. Savings is $200 assuming you don't want / need different grips / shafts - otherwise savings is pretty insignificant if you want something different and are planning to keep for a number of years... Hand size affects grip size, swing speed / tempo affects shaft selection. Fitting for $60 is pretty insignificant when you consider cost of a round + cart + beer. :-)

Being fit is an experience everyone needs. I'm sure you can take the standard and have them bent after the fact. But custom is playing towards your game, not bending your game to stock sticks. If you spend this much coin on irons, get fitted. Trust me people, it's worth the time.

So true! I still have my old school MP33 forged that was fitted for my game. It was a total game changer for me.

I just went from TaylorMade RAC OS2 irons with regular steel shafts to Callaway Rogue ST Max with Stiff shafts. I hit these new irons like crap. They are so chunky and heavy. Should I stick it out and try to get better with them or try to find some irons that I hit better?

I was fitted for Stealth irons with 95 stiff shafts. I figured the Rogue ST Max with 95 stiff shafts would pretty much be the same since they're both game improvement clubs. But they feel heavier (and harder to hit) than I remember the Stealths being during the fitting.

If you're going Mizuno then go custom fit. You get to select the shaft that's best suited for you as well as the grips, length and offset.

How many rounds have you played with them? There's definitely a "break in" period of getting used to new clubs.

Tbh, the club head itself is not going to make much of a difference in performance. Other factors you may want to pay attention to are how it looks at address (visual), the shaft stiffness and weight, and loft.

The Rogue and Stealth series are pretty similar in that they are game improvement clubs (wider soles); so I honestly don't think that is the issue with your club switch. Further, your OS2s are traditional loft. Your old 7 iron was a 33* and the MAX is 27.5*. This means each new club is playing a club longer but also may mean why you might be having difficulty hitting your longer irons.

These are arguably the top of the line irons for many golfers. If you know they fit you, and are in the market, this is really hard to beat. Especially from Costco with their return policy.
