The market is mostly fair.
For the high demand products such as intel core 12th and 13th, the market is pretty saturated. There isn't much room to make a fool of consumer, take note and know your market, there is hint to those who make price decision and watch this board by any chance.

Power consumption does go up with higher clocked XMP ram though, as you're increasing SA voltage.
Anyway, this deal sucks. You can grab motherboard Combos with 12900k in the 400 price range on newegg.

They are dreaming
We've all had our fair share of suffering during the last few years just trying to get us a new fairly priced PC components — now let them suffer.
There will be no option for these markets, but to deflate, so people will start buying. Peace!
If you need a board, this is the best route right now.
The Tomahawk 6 layer @ (70A x16 SPS) + 12900k for 430 is a great price. effectively paying sale price for board ($215+ another 215 for the 12900k).
Board can tame CPU with ease for VRM temps within PL limits of 241w. You can run it unlocked but I think thats completely stupid if you do stuff outside of gaming.
GREAT for productivity.. Will beat 13600k and almost matches 7900X.

The problem is 13600k is slightly better for gaming and has a better IMC (Ram compatibility is better past 6000mhz).
Both are same power consumption more or less. May have more heat out of 12900k (2 extra P cores), but within 10C from what I've seen (gaming).

Personal rant... for the silly people who spam muh power consumption:
We need to stop saying Ryzen is more efficient for all workloads because its not. High clocks exist for gaming purposes, actual IPC of 7000 series isn't much higher than 5000.
Ryzen excels at actual rendering/datacenter, but gaming trades off with alternative newer intel platforms, especially at higher clocks in consumer segmentation.
The 3D Ryzen models ARE the gold standard ATM because they're designed to use lower power. You can see this in the above test by igors lab. Regular Ryzen? haha no way.
The most heat generated out of Intel 12th/13th for gaming is esports games where you can push over 130-140W with high frame rate setups (300+FPS).. GPU bound AAA games will sip power.
Ryzen will typically use up to a 140w limit if left to default motherboard PBO/AUTO, at least this is the case for 5000 series. (I have one).
12900k can be limited to 125w/125w for PL1/2 and only be 1% weaker @ 1080p.

There will be tons of scenarios were older non 3D 5000 chips are just worse, especially if all you do is game.
IF your goal is heavy work loads and non gaming, by all means get a 7900x/7950x...a little more efficient per performance. Better if you power limit.
7950x = 12900k wattage full blender workload, but better performance. I'm convinced zen4 eff.is crap because they ramped the clock speed up insanely high. (Same case for intel)
Server variants are likely significantly better.
tl;dr combo prices are good for 12900k, buying the chip alone sucks. Don't buy into power consumption crap. It's just not true, esp if gaming.
It's sort of already there with the combo deals, people are just waiting for the stand alone deal. Historically that's also about the exit price for the i9 of the first gen of a platform. There's only a small Raptor Lake refresh pending September, then LGA1700 is done.
With Intel the strategy is to buy the i9 of its last gen of a certain socket. They keep their value very well.
