It's a Civic, chill.

I've run full synth (generic and Mobil 1) with approx 10-15k intervals on all the cars I've ever owned, including a KL-ZE Mazda MX-6 I built from the ground up, a Crapsler 3.8L, Ford Duratec, a Mazda 2.0L FS motor. Never had any engine problems related to lubrication.

Some engines, such as Honda VTEC, may be susceptible to problems with varnish/sludge plugging up the oil control valve or fine mesh screens on spool valves, etc. On those, I'd probably run a shorter interval, most cars people change the oil way too often.
My Mercedes has 10k / 1 year oil change intervals.

Great to see idiots doing oil changes at 3500 miles, as it keeps oil prices down for us SD folks 👍

But you got 25 off

Full synthetic is almost $100 out here in Oregon. It's ridiculous.

I can do my own 5qt change for $25 for oil and $10 for the filter. In Oregon we got super-liberals running things so you can just put used motor oil in your recycling and they have to take it. $35 and 35 minutes, and I'm done
You can recycle old oil for free at AutoZone

Word of advice: Read the manual and learn to do things yourself. Long gone are the days where you have to change oil every 3,000 miles, most cars now do 10,000 mi depending on what you have. People who designed the cars no way more than these wannabe mechanics, since you know, they have engineering degrees.

I refuse to go to an oil change place when I realized I know more than all these people combined together. If you don't have time to do it yourself, that's understandable and that's your choice. You choose to take that luxury and there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't have time to read the manual, then you're just lazy and deserve to be taken advantage of.

p.s. : I don't have a horse in this race, I have two EVs, I don't need to do oil changes, but just want to pass along something I learned in life.
Total bs. In am an engineer. Perfect way to change oil is measure the engine running time. Some cars do have information on that.

As you see city driving would be 30mph and interstate be 60-80, so that would halve your recommend duration. I simply sample that oil thru dipstick and see how bad it is.

A rough guideline be 3k for complete city and 5k for interstate and 4k for mixed. Some of the Toyota engines are bulletproof so they can chug along, that doesn't mean you should abuse them.

Unless you are running used oil analysis to confirm your extended oil change intervals, I wouldn't recommend doing things because nothing has failed before. Some engines are really tough, but that doesn't mean no damage is occuring.

Correct me if I'm wrong, these places suck the oil out from the top and don't change the filter or anything else, right? Or do they change the filter? And like someone else mentioned, they likely never touch/change the drain plug/gasket.

I heard Walmart does it by the sucker method.
They extract the oil from the dipstick tube and change the filter. They moved away from draining from the oil pan, as it eliminated one large expensive variable for them and it works well and almost idiot proof.

Oil extraction is far from an industry standard practice for any major oil chain - in particular, express oil lube locations benefit from the speed of draining through the plug. Any place that doesn't change the oil filter is creating a significant liability.

Although Wal-Mart oil change locations are located within Wal-Marts, they operate like optometrist offices attached to a Costco* - they're under a shared roof but aren't necessarily operated by the building owner. As such, there's not a universal Wal-Mart oil change location standard in the way that the aisles and offerings of a Wal-Mart retail store tend to be standardized.

Good luck!
Jon

* Or for some localities, the liquor store attached outside the Costco(!)
Its an industry standard practice for luxury dealerships (Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, etc ...).

I have found more and more dealerships are moving to this method, as it eliminates liability from stripped oil pans. They can extract the oil, as they work on other things and since BMW and Mercedes have oil filter cartridges on the top of the engine, it makes for a very clean oil change.

I purchased a cheap oil extractor to use at home and it's pretty amazing. I just need to change the filter and that's it. I can check the condition of the oil as it's being extracted and it's better than using a fumoto or other valve, since there is nothing sticking out under the car and I only have to purchase one extractor and not multiple valves. Most of the turbo charged small engine owners really don't have a choice. Shorter OC intervals or $$$$ engine jobs.

When I do, I warm my the engine so it could have flowability before I drain through the bolt with carefully removed oil drain bolt and washer.

When I put back filter, I make sure to lube the oring and tighten both to spec.
It takes like 20 mins for the whole deal. Just get ramps.

The risk to your engine by using bargain barrel oil is not worth the savings. Pay up for full synthetic. Doing it yourself is easy and saves a lot of money, plus you can guarantee what is going in your engine.
