Good to see NVMe storage getting cheaper, but are they getting cheaper because of lesser costs or cutting things like DRAM?

Overstock, these prices will not hold. They will go up in a couple of months.

Alright. So what do think is the timing/pricing sweet spot for a PS5 capable 2TB with a heat sink?

Dunno, but DDR6 modules 3 years ago would cost you almost $200 for a 2GB chip, obviously cheaper if you buy in massive bulk, today the same chip $5

$100 for a 2tb, 7000mBps+ with heat sink this holiday is possible. For myself, I bought 2 nvme heat sinks for $10 and the 2tb Samsung 980 pro for 130 recently. Waiting for a deal on another plain drive.

Need 5,500mBps+ for ps5. Would stay away from slower drives for ps5, as the latter is so much more expensive, and not worth possibly breaking for a few dollars.

Edit, there's an ongoing deal for the msi 2tb that's 7000 mBps with heat sink. It has mail in rebate though, that's a significant hassle. I'd recommend Samsung if you can wait for a deal (or bite now for some extra $)

You NEED gen 4 for PS5. You don't need 5500mbps and multiple users here have stated that any gen 4 drive works fine.

I don't own a PS5, but really doubt it's OS cares about the speed of the drive as long as it can address the space. I've been building PC's since the ATA days, and 3500 mbps is still fast AF

This is a good point. Gen4 is a solid requirement, while slower than recommended speed reported worked in many people's tests.

One article says it's possible the slower drive may have issues with some games, someday. So it's a decision to take a gamble and save $ now, or wait / pay.

Hard to find much info about the hw. Looks like it's probably a dramless qlc drive. So compare to the p41 plus which is faster.
