I know nothing of Electric Bikes, so barely related noob Q here. I see people riding double or carrying tons of cargo on little ebikes all the time. This says max payload of rider plus cargo is 100KG. Are these things just super underrated or this lower capacity than others?

This is the bike that 90% of people looking for a bike should buy. It will make life significantly more enjoyable when riding vs an analogue one, the range will beat or tie basically anything under $1k. It's slow for an ebike (uphill especially), but will be faster than a road bike for all but the hardcore riders out there under every scenario. The folding capability and passenger seat will both likely be more useful than many expect and it totals under $500.

Only people who bike a lot, are >200lbs, or are trying to replace a car should be looking at bikes >$1k in my opinion when something like this can be had for $419.

Both would be true. Sometimes the capacity is reduced because of the power of the motor, sometimes due to the capacity of the frame, and sometimes due to the capacity of the tires. It can be really hard to judge which is the limiting factor. If it's the motor (350 watts will be hard pressed at 220lbs), you can often make up for that by pedaling. If it's the tires (some 14" bicycle tires are limited to 110lbs per tire), you increase the odds of flats but will likely be ok if you are on clean pavement and not jumping curbs. I wouldn't recommend overloading a frame however, but people do that all the time with chairs, cars, boats, and pretty much everything and 'most' of the time are ok.

Darn! I missed the 200 lb requirement by 2 lbs Big Grin Though in all seriousness good write up the only additional item I would add would be terrain. If you're looking for something for on road/sidewalk or maybe grass this would work. Dirt/sand probably not ideal.

Take note of the weight, which is not officially listed (there is a mention on the page showing the "Product Weight: 31kg" which is almost 70 pounds, and that's a lot if it is not indicating the total package weight. That's pretty heavy to lift into a car trunk--and it's a challenge for me with lighter e-bikes, like the 50lb ones.

These e-bikes are similar to the Jetson Bolt Pro-type e-bikes on sale the last few years that start around $300 that have 350W motors, go a max of about 15mph with a throttle-only range of about 15 miles and pedal-assist range maybe 50+% more. I agree these are enough bike for most people ti get around town. I find a 350W motor sufficient and coupled with some pedaling, they seem to provide enough power and torque for most casual cycling (it's not for those who want to cruise at 20mph as you would on a road bike).

One main concern is the short seat tube lengthg that causes taller riders to have to bend their legs and pedal in an uncomfortable and less efficient position. It really makes a huge difference when pedaling to have a full extension of your legs for easier pedaling, and you can find cheap longer seat tubes online to replace the shorter seat tubes that come with these small e-bikes.

I've heavily used Jetson Haze (500 on a deal) for couple of weeks - absolutely happy. If this is the same category - go for it.
