One of the few consumer electronics I can ever recall the experienced a true company driven price hike (not counting GPU manufacturers padding their own products during the 2021 GPU crisis).

Nice to see it back down to original MSRP, which is still probably absurd given this launched several years ago. Would you pay full price for an iPhone XR, or Samsung Galaxy S10? Probably not, considering there are newer, better options out there now. But this still probably hits the mark for where consumer VR currently sits.

Having said that, consumer VR, if you haven't experienced yet, sucks. You can find cool videos of VR gaming, the look really nice on video, but the was recorded screen from the experience on someone's monitor. The actual headset visuals do not look like what you would think, which is likely why take rate on VR is still pretty low.

Honestly, anyone real into VR will never admit this, but there's not a whole lot of visual fidelity increase in these vs using something akin to Google Cardboard on a decent Android phone.

While yes, this did get a price hike, remember that the base unit used to be 64gb. That is the one I have but I mostly use it for pcvr now anyway so the internal memory does not matter.

Just bought a renewed one from meta. Was flawless, practically brand new, with the exception of a single green dead pixel. Makes me wonder if it had even ever been used, but had instead just been pulled because maybe they saw enough returns on dead pixels near the center and decided to just sell those as renewed. Doesn't bother me at all. There's a nice "summer" sale on some key games right now, and a $50 gc for 42.50 on amazon (see the other slick deals)

If u have a rig that will rin it, the reverb screen can't be beat, the tracking on the quest is slightly better, but it just depends on games u plan to play, of tethering to PC, I'd get the reverb

Was thinking about getting a VR system last year after my nephew and his sons raved about it. This is not a good indication of the system's merits since they're idiots lol Decided now is still not the time to get into VR. It's still not quite there yet imo. Too crude.

You buy this, thinking it's a deal (it isn't; it's just the price it used to be before they cranked it up)

You get it in the mail after anxiously awaiting its delivery. Thank god it wasn't stolen.

You play your first game. You're blown away, a little nauseous, and you have a nagging suspicion you look like a complete tool when you play. (You do.)

You play more, but keep the times short.

Six months later, you see it in your office. You remember buying it. You realize you are bored of it (lack of games).

You shrug and return to your ps5.
