I bought this phone from Walmart late last year for ~$100. I activated it on Total's cheapest plan and didn't replenish after the first 30 days were up. Turned it off at that point and when I turned it back on about 30 days later (a little over 60 days from activation) it was unlocked.

You only need to pay one month. After the month expires you will have already activated the phone and after 60 days the phone will unlock.

Have bought two XR, one iPhone 11 in the past year with Total Wireless and Straight Talk. Latest was a used 11 bought in January this year, unlocked after one month payment and 60-days.

There are occasionally issues with unlocking.

Message 611611 with UNLOCK and you get automated response when device will be unlocked. Device needs to be activated first for 60-day counter.

Are folks who ordered from Total website able to pull up their order status? I am getting a "We cannot process your request at this time" which I hope does not equal order canceled. I know Verizon's IT is notoriously bad from buying accessories there with AMEX offers, so hoping it's just Verizon being Verizon.

I still have my first gen too. It was my first Walmart FM phone. Unlocked many years later. It's a backup that I use for airplay mostly. Battery life is pretty shot on it now. Still used it for my main phone last week after I sold my Pixel 7 which I absolutely hated. Might try Samsung one day if iPhone gets rid of the thumb sensor and physical SIM card slot permanently.

heard terrible things about the pixel 7, the 6 5G is not much better
the pixel 3xl was good for its time but the phone/voice sucked

iphones also had terrible voice issues since SE/5
biggest issue is the fragile glass and the terrible cameras on the 14, everything looks like a cartoon
Ill keep my SE thanks you!

Placed order and it shows as Accepted and lists as "Approved" but when I click view order details I get this:

"We couldn't find an order number and email that matched the information you entered. Please check the information and try again."

Anyone else have this issue?

I saw that message after 15 minutes status changed to approved but I'm still not able to get details on their page.

I did get confirmation after about 10 minutes placing the order.

Curious - there's a Rewards program tab on the Total By Verizon site. Is that Rewards program separate from Tracfone Rewards?

I wonder if the points from activating T-by-V phones can also be pooled with my year-old Tracfone Rewards account. And if there is a certain way to do it to maximize the potential points :-)

OP, thanks for sharing this deal. Until today, the most I'd spent on a phone was $130ish.

Got one. Thanks OP!

FYI if anyone is interested about the unlocking policy:

For Apple devices activated with new Total by Verizon Service on the Total by Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the device will be automatically unlocked sixty (60) days after activation in the absence of an indication of fraud.

Thanks. Yeh I got a confirmation email and my CC shows pending, just wondering if its a system issue or my order didn't go through.

I did a chat with CS but they said they had an issue and would have to request a callback.

they are separate

the point system isn't even worth it at this point.

Several months ago TW and tracfone were giving around 7-12k in points per adding a line and referring

crazy deals back then.

Looks like the message changed now when you click on "view order details":

"We apologize, but we cannot process your transaction at this time. Please try again later or call us at 1-866-663-3633."

Maybe it's a system wide issue.

After the 60 days period, this phone will be unlocked.

Based on my experience, iPhones have the best coverage of the international 4g/5g bands. So it should be used internationally. It is always a good idea to check what 4g/5g band your destination country uses to confirm.

I don't think so. Others have commented before, it is best not to mess around with the Verizon unlocking rules. That means, don't try to use the phone or SIM card until it is unlocked after 60days. If you try to pop in another SIM card or use your Total's sim on another phone, you are risking to break the unlock policy before 60 days.

Got a call back from CS and they advised the order went through and that the error message on view order details is because the phone has not shipped. who knows.

Think the 2-Year plan - $34.00 from Allstate is worth it?
Drop it and break the screen once should pay for itself, right?
