Go back to stock firmware. I had similar issues and going stock resolved the issues and it is stable.

The previous non pro versions were frontpage at 225$. The pro version for 219.99 is a great deal. Got one. Looking forward to use AiMesh with my existing router

I have this an installed whatever that custom firmware is for it that everyone recommends. I will say that sometimes the wifi just loses internet on my phone for 20 to 30 seconds and my phone has to switch to LTE sometimes - don't know why and whether it's my phone, the router or the firmware. In addition ever since I got this router my Echo Studio devices have more issues playing music. I'll ask it "Alexa, play Taylor Swift on Spotify" and it will say "Now playing This is Taylor Swift from Spotify" and nothing will ever play.

I get the same issue on the latest Asuswrt-Merlin. It says connected without internet. Not sure what the issue is (it's not fixed by restarts). So maybe I have to do a hard reset.

Kind of wishy washy about buying this router at the moment. For people who are really tech savvy they probably want a Wi-Fi 6e router, or are waiting for the Asus GT Wi-Fi 7 router that should be out in a week or two (though no clients would support, more for being on the newest).

I am *also* having the same issue with Merlin. I was so frustrated because I thought I might have to buy another router, but mine is still pretty new. Might explore flashing the stock firmware to see if my issues go away.

Go back to stock firmware. I had similar issues and going stock resolved the issues and it is stable.

Will try. And yeah, I believe it's Merlin I'm running that everyone recommended online.

I would go stock, but I use the OpenVPN option... Any alternatives to run OpenVPN outside the router?

Switch to using wireguard. It's so much easier and faster than openvpn

Had this but had issues with older legacy stuff (LG TV, 2.5ghz stuff etc.) is that resolved? or anyone else see those issues still?

To narrow down the issue of legacy stuff having issues, have you tried disabling SmartConnect and seeing if more reliable?

How much of an upgrade is this over the original RT-AX86U? Did they just upgrade the CPU and left everything the same or did they change anything else?
