If you have a number it's actually CHEAPER than the Boost offer, but I was comparing the offer to "Need a new number" since thats the offer with Boost.
Do you want to visit Metro phone store?

Geez, phablet!

This is tempting, though. Can this realistically be used for drawing? (He says, aware that he used to draw on the much smaller 3DS.)

most of what say is correct.
however, the metro phone is locked to metro for 6m.
and cannot be easily unlocked for ~$1.75 like the boost phone

so options are if u need/want something unlocked now, get boost.
if u can wait 6m then the metro is better w 6gb (arguably)
in fact the metro can be had for as low as 40. [0+40plan]
i picked up 2 that way and 1 at its current price of 60.

Ok trying to wrap my head around the options here...
I've searched the thread but its gotten quite lengthy, so someone please correct me if wrong or confirm I am understanding thiscorrectly.
Boost Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 is roughly OOP $50... Thats ($10) phone + 1 mo plan ($40) - LOCKED to Boost but easily unlockable via eBay. This version has 4GB RAM but can virtually add 1GB from ROM, bringing it to 5GB.
Metro Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 is roughly OOP $60 Thats ($20) phone w/ new line + 1 mo plan ($40) - LOCKED to Metro but easily unlockable via eBay. This version has 6GB RAM but can virtually add 1GB from ROM, bringing it to 7GB.

Am I understanding this correctly? It comes down to spending another $10 for 2GB additional RAM.
Yes? If so, IMO the extra 2GB is well worth it. Seems like a no brainer to go Metro then unlock (if you wish).
TIA

good luck.
looks like i replied just a little too late
do report back on the unlocking progress for metro.
i could be wrong, but will be hard/unlikely to unlock the Metro variant
before the required 6 m wait

if there was an instant way to unlock the Metro variant, it would have already blew up in Metro deal.

If I have to wait 6 months it isn't the absolute end of the world, but unlocking would ultimately be the goal.
I use T-Mo now with recent flagship phones. I was just looking for something that could serve as a back-up and use T-Mo 5G Network if something were to happen to my daily-driver device.
If I can't unlock immediately, I understand I'd still have to wait 6mo since metro phones no longer accept T-Mo PP account sims directly out of the box.

in which case metro better 4 u.
but there is some value for folks who need something unlocked now.
when i had this phone i did like it.
was enuff of a phone for my needs.
i ultimately decided against it because of large size.
6in screen is what i prefer.
can make do w 6.4
but 6.8 is uncomfortable.

edit some metro do/did work w TM D1
the n200. i bought yesterday just for that purpose.
i need something to work w TM immediately. [temporarily]
was gonna be this boost Moto, until i bought the n200

For the people who were asking for unlocking. I bought the unlock code from e b a y, with the name d r u n l o c k. Paid 1.75, sent the IMEI via e b a y message during purchasing. Got the code in 15 mins. Using the phone now w TracFone T-Mobile Sim. Hope that helps.

When it shows up should I throw my T-mo PostPaid account sim in there and give it whirl BEFORE I insert and power-up with the Metro sim with the new number?
Back in the day some carriers and some devices left open a little loophole window that didn't make the device COMPLETELY locked until first boot when the device registered on the network.

I think was AT&T Go phones... they were such morons. If you request a network unlock with the device ESN before booting up it up the system actually emailed you the code within 24hr. Ahhh the good old days...

u can tyr. wont work. many already tried.

what u describe i believe is US Reseller Flex Policy. that was popular 1-4 years ago.
essentially, same phone would get sent to resellers like walmart, best buy etc
usually iphones.
they would lock to which ever sim is first inserted

(infact recently (~20 days ago) there is a very popular thread on iphone mini from walmart, sold as verizon phone, in which folks are putting in inactive att sim and getting them unlocked immediately)
.

my understanding is, metro phones , however, are completely different.
locked to Metro for 180 days.
if u buy online, the sim is outside phone.
even if u put in another sim before ever putting in metro sim.
phone will not work

What typically needs to be done is flashing the device from "U" firmware to "U1" firmware. If you are comfortable with the idea of flashing your phone, you might want to check to see if you have the correct firmware version. Of course it is possible that even with "U1" firmware, Verizon still rejects the device.
How will this help? It doesn't change the IMEI and carrier compatibility databases are IMEI based. The compatibility issue really only matters for carriers that tie SIMs to IMEIs like Metro. For those that don't, you can activate a SIM with an officially compatible phone and move the SIM into the phone that isn't officially compatible. This is what people do with Visible for example. If Verizon post-paid or prepaid allows you to swap SIMs between phones at will, the compatibility problem is a non-issue.

Do you need to buy the service? I don't actually use a phone and would only use this for controlling devices on wifi.
