No, a good starter light is probably a 600w HID or LED equivalent with blue and red spectrums.

This light isn't bright enough to grow serious flower.

They are really good. Mine is pushing 3 years now. I use it during the winter months to keep my tropical carnivores plants going strong. I've also used it to Pre-grow plants for spring. I put a reflecting mat under plants I'm trying to grow and the light that reflects is great for things like Orchids that need good indirect light. I place the orchids about 12 inches around the light.

Aerogarden [aerogarden.com] currently has this on sale for $49.95 but shipping is an extra $5.95 unless you get something else. Might as well get some seed pods for $6.97 instead.

What's the trick to keeping the orchids alive? I either overwatered or underwater the last one I had.

Then what "LED equivalent" is sufficient (IYHO)?

Lol what a joke. This is a ripoff. There's millions of full spectrum led grow lights for way cheaper than this or much better for this price. This is a brand name trying to charge you crazy money for their name, in case you haven't seen their prices for there so-called hydroponic growers lmao. Pathetic.

Check out Amazon you will see what I mean. Find a size that works for you. You're not going to be growing pot so you don't need extremely expensive LEDs so anything cheap will work.
Sample link?

Is this a good starter set up for growing pot?
It's the bare minimum at 45 watts. You can get a 100 watt on Amazon for around $80 that you can hang in your closet and it will support 2 plants. Seeds are cheap ($4/seed and easy to get shipped to you) and you will need some 3 or 5 gallon "smart bags". Plant them in some nice fox forest dirt (nutrient heavy) and you are on your way. Total investment should be around $100 to do it right.

a 1 qt plastic food container, drill lots of holes in it all around. add small wood chips/bark, sponge rock or clay balls that hold moisture, and small pieces of charcoal to the roots. dunk once a week in another quart of water and let soak for an hour or so. you'll need to feed the plant too. i use the miracle gro orchid spray, the bottle lasts a long time. i spray the leaves every 2 weeks. buy what you can afford. and keep it away from direct sunlight. it should still get light, but not much.
