Yes, in the old days. But not any more. Instead, just buy a $1 BYOP sim for another device and activate/transfer balance. I have done it perhaps 20 times.

Most likely your account has been banned/locked regardless of which card and email combo you use. Only way to fix it is to call in and have it fixed. You probably have more than one account under your address which is a big no no with both HSN and QVC.

If I want to just use this as an emergency phone in my car can I just keep it in box and bust it open whenever I need it? Or do I have to open set it up/maintain it? Or can I open/ set it up and just let it sit there?

In the end I can always call 911 regardless of my minutes etc?

You need to activate & get a number as well as use it occasionally.
If for some reason it won't activate (have been some problems with these) you need to know in first 30 days to return.
All phones are supposed to have 911 service but I've never actually tried it.
