it's more like the abandoned it since you can no longer log into most of the sites due to changes in how the logins work and the company's lack of interest in fixing the desktop version so they can focus on the more profitable playon cloud.... lifetime my ass....
Yes. Upgraded to 11 beta, desktop worked perfectly fine with all services for weeks, until they added the software version check.

I really don't want to give them more money either.

Some uses are mentioned. If you don't get it, sounds like you don't need it.

Some programs come and go from services. Or, some people only subscribe to a service for a short time. This creates mp4 files that can be saved for later, no restrictions, no syncing back with the service. And yes, ads, works with the free services too.

And some of us have slow internet. I have only cell options, or satellite. Currently waiting on upgraded equipment for a new cell option, but at twelve miles to the tower, it's still not going to be great. Although what I have streams with no issue, skipping forward or back often results in a pause of a few seconds. Much nicer with instant seeking off a drive.

Okay, I can see the benefits of using this. Starting to make sense of all its different uses.

so this is not a tv service?

No. If a streaming service drops a series or movies, which they do every month as part of their rotation, you can record the shows and have them forever.

Right. My server runs on Win 10. I don't care that my $19 Lifetime didn't last but for 4 years. I can afford $2 a month for it now and I'm not gonna whine about it.

Sorry I'm new to this, so say you signed up for trial streaming membership on AppleTV+ and want to watch entire season of a show, it can pull all episodes down somehow without me having to click one each and run entire length of each episode or ?

Sounds like it's strictly for recording online services... For the services you already pay for.. and most likely already have a download for offline use option.. I don't get the point except for maybe the AdSkip feature if you have Hulu with ads and other streaming services that contain ads.
Many movies and tv shows are removed regularly.

This sounds like a promising product.

But people have some kind of grievance against the company, I don't understand exactly what.

In the past they sold you a lifetime license, but then later you gotta pay $2 a month?

What's the matter with windows 10?

Apple+ is not supported. See the original post of supported streaming services. But you definitely get the idea.

The program has you login to every supported service. You can go in, and click on individual episodes to set up your own queue order, and it will get them in order (including if they are in different services). Or, go in to a show, season, and "record all". With my slow internet, and not wanting to get anything flagged for abuse (which would have taken much more than I did), I typically limited to 8-10 shows/day on some days.

Yes, the product mostly works fine. Sometimes some services go down for "an amount of time", usually they come back eventually, sometimes there are steps you need to do.

They had their product named "Desktop", and sold "lifetime" licenses. Windows 11 was coming out, they said initially they'd support it. Some of us upgraded to Windows 11 (me, I got it in beta). "Desktop" worked perfectly fine. Messages continued that it would still continue working with 11. Then, one day, they added a software version check, like "Windows 11 not compatible", so, couldn't use Desktop any more. Then they released what amounted to a service pack, the identical software, and renamed it "Home". That ended the lifetime license for those of us on 11. Those still on 10, could still use Desktop, but, with no support, so services stopped working, and became essentially useless for most in a short amount of time.

Some people got a few years out of the license, some got barely one (or around there). When they ended it, they offered "3 months free" of "Home" (iirc) for those that had it. Those that were subscribed for a shorter amount of time were offered a little more.

I have no problem with companies ending "lifetime" licenses. I have a problem with the way they handled it. (saying that it would work, then saying it wouldn't work despite the fact "we" saw it working, then, same software, just changing the name). If they were upfront about what I knew to be fact, then, it would be a different story. And, the "3 months", seemed like a slap in the face. Their choice, sure, but it could have been a year, or anything.

And yes, I didn't want to give them more money, but I just did. And I'm not happy about it.... There's something was in the middle of recording when it was removed from services, now it's back (childhood show).

Forgot to add, on Reddit, there was an employee posting on his own time (not really paid to be there). Some people asked if Desktop was going away, he said no. And in at least one instance, essentially mocked/sarcastically replied/whatever the people asking (I recall rudeness in general). This was shortly before it went away. edit: The official rep apologized for the tone of the employee (going off vague memory, but pretty sure).

And they have a thing with not releasing release notes with updates. If a service is broken, they release an update, you usually have to go into the software to see if they fixed what your issue was. Some suggested it handier to just type out a line or two at least occasionally (they have/had a release note page on their website, just not updated).

One thing I didn't understand in the beginning was I now own a copy of what I recorded, so years down the line. Whether I have the streaming service or not. It is mine just like a DVD. I can download and take it wherever I want. Remember it is recorded on your computer. No one can erase or take it from you, even if you no longer have that streaming service, but I suggest you record and download it on a removable device (usb drive) when you can. Just in case something happens to your computer.

He asked a question. You could have answered it instead of chastising him for simply asking a question. Why the attitude?

Yeah, same situation. Lifetime Playon Desktop and they just removed software for Window 11.

OMG this thing still exists. They ripped me off with their Lifetime subscription before. This thing always gets on SD and then somehow gets thumbed up. This is a SCAM company?

If they had a Roku app that I could stream to and it ran in the background while I could use my computer for other things, I'd be all in. Or if it would allow you to still use your computer like Chrome does when streaming from a tab..

Screen mirroring on Roku makes your computer's entire screen go to the tv.. Some of us would like to stream and work/surf.

For that reason, I'm out.
