87v supposedly in US, but not sure now. will find it out after receiving my order by 06/30
It states "MADE IN CHINA" on the gray part of the meter itself. To be fair, the location of the text is located on the removable battery door/rear stand. I think it is safe to assume that manufacture location is for the entire fully-assembled meter (meter + battery door/rear stand + yellow case + probes + etc.).

All this being said, I'm very intrigued by the bluetooth meters and scopes available on the market. Wireless measurements, calibratable, more compact (because some use your phone as the display), more channels than a meter for signal analysis.. all can be had around $80. I think EEVblog had a decent offering as well as some other kickstarters.

And the $250 87v fluke would be 700 Euros in France.
For those who think Fluke is the best because it's made in the USA, it's just a very good and expensive meter because the brand cares enough about quality and not because where it is made. I've used a couple dozens of them for about 2 decades and they mostly still work. On the other hand, another American brand Keithley that's been making quality desktop meters that used to last for decades doesn't make meters as good as they used to. They started using cheap capacitors for power supply and all my 4 model 2000 meters blew their caps under very light use. Had to replace 8 caps. Less than a dollar worth of parts for a $1000 meter. They shouldn't have done that but they didn't care. Made with care and honoring warranty, that's what we really want. Not made in USA or China or Germain engineering. Those don't equate certain quality or lack of it.
maybe higher voltage and amps? more accurate? what else?
So would the average or above average DIYer care about the differences? At least some, yes. The average person isn't likely to miss the 20,000 count mode nor even realize if their meter's absolute accuracy is 2-3x less than the Fluke. Most people won't need the CAT III, IV safety (I never did).
However, many people will appreciate the fast auto range response time. They will appreciate the very good touch hold feature (something Brymen is sorely lacking). They will appreciate that the leads are better made than those on most cheap meters (but not as good as those used by Agilent/Brymen). They will appreciate that the screen update rate is fast and the bar graph segment actually responds at 10x the digits. This means it really does behave like an analog needle. I've seen some meters with this bar graph that updates only 1-2 times per second thus it doesn't really have any value in showing trends. Another great thing about the 87-5 is the very fast continuity checker. This is handy when trying to guess which wire goes where. Only a brief contact will trigger the beep. Some meters take quite a bit longer.
So even if this is overkill for a DIYer, many will appreciate the differences even if they are hard/impossible to cost justify.
