Alienware has a very good cooling design, to control thermals, especially the 17 inch model, which has great heat dissipation.
This allows:
1. much less thermal throttling
2. higher wattage power fed into the graphics card
3. greater frame rates, and better performance
If you want a better idea of actual gaming performance, look at the wattage of the power supply, how much power the laptop supplies to the discrete graphics, and then look at actual frame rate and benchmark numbers from online reviews and YouTube videos.
This is the reason why you won't ever see 14" laptops with 4090 graphics accelerators. They can't handle the heat, can't supply enough power to the graphics, and even if they do try to squeeze it in, these laptops suffer from horrible thermal throttling.
The other comment is correct. These laptops are designed for different purposes. A 17" laptop is far less portable. Ever try taking a 17" laptop with a bag and power supply on an airplane? Setting it up on the seat? You will see how impractical it is, and where a 14" or 15" laptop make more sense. However, if you have it sitting 95% of the time on AC power as a desktop replacement, then the 17" with super high refresh is ideal for gaming, especially FPS. 17" is much more comfortable for long term use than 14 or 15".
So decide what kind of laptop you have a need for, and then find the best deal for a laptop in that segment. Don't go chasing after the best "deal" and end up with a laptop that is impractical for your daily use!
Personally I don't like Acer but honestly every companies quality control seems to be total garbage now so I can't really hold it against just them anymore.

Person A gives general advice to pick which screen between 2 laptops a potential buyer who asked for a comparison preferred. The advice was easily distinguishable differences that almost anyone would pick up on between the 2 screens without even needing a side by side comparison. The suggestion was to pick which one they prefer.
Person B repeatedly names a single use scenario for a difference that competitive esports FPS gamers have trouble distinguishing accurately in side by side comparisons and no one seems to be able to accurately distinguish when not in side by side comparisons.
Objectively in this totally hypothetical scenario I've presented that does not involve either of us. Does Person A or Person B sound like they are basing their response on their needs?
There is a certain percentage of society nowadays that really believes they have a big advantage with many hobbies by spending a ton of money on equipment. I got a hunch its more people than
it used to be. In reality skill and practice makes you good, the equipment really doesn't matter nearly as much as long as you dont have the very cheapest, but because of marketing and capitalism a lot of people think they need the fastest/latest/greatest stuff to compete when they really just need to practice more or dont have the right skills in general.

Also, I like the Alienware build more than Acer's, so I really have a hard time choosing here. Maybe have to wait til got both in hand.
No that is not true. The 6800M XT or 6850 is superior. Whatever site said that is either inept or being paid to lie. Also did you not see the VRAM on the 6850M XT? Your decisions and statements are all over the place and make no sense. You need to find some reliable sources of information, so probablyy the opposite of where you normally look.

The 720p webcam is an added insult. My m15 R1 from 2019 already had a 1080p cam.
