No need to soak them like the previous poster. Wipe them down with paper towels and it will effectively eliminate the smell. Mine had a greasy coating on them, which wiping down took off and with it the smell.

Sold and shipped by Amazon. I think these are the same ones sold at Walmart. I snagged a 160 lb set few months back and I love them.
They shipped each plate individually. The package was destroyed on some plates but my plates were unharmed. They came in with a strong plastic smell. I put them in my bath tub with soap/water/vinegar for 2 days. That eliminated 90% of the smell. After 1-2 weeks the smell is pretty gone.
I tried to dry one of the plates with a towel after washing and the writing came off, so let them dry naturally then wipe the soap with paper towel or something.
But as a weight set, they are great. I don't do Olympics lifts, the most stress they go through is likely during my deadlift and they feel solid. Definitely don't use the 10s on their own. If you're just starting or warming up and need to deadlift 65, put the j-hooks on the lowest position in your rack.

Buy or no buy ?
Do you need bumpers? If you don't, you can probably find a better deal.

If it was me, I'd take that $ to FB Marketplace and find a deal. Moms clearing out their overflowing garage are the best.

All the "deals" around me on fb are people taking $100 off new prices. It's insane what people think some things are worth. Some of it looks like literal junk. Guess the eye of the beholder or something.

I'm confused. Not one option on that link is cheaper than the prices listed in the original post.
Uhh, when I commented there was a 370lb set for $450 on this post. Not sure what happened.

When did weights get pricey? I bought some around 20 years ago and they were about $20 for 75 lbs worth with handles at Walmart.
They were about $2/lb during pandemic and if you were lucky to find some. I bought during Pandemic but I am happy that I did as it kept my sanity

Your prices are all wrong. LOL! In 2002, I bought my brand-new S2000 for $33K + tax; I doubt a top-end Silverado was cheaper. Also, a dozen eggs here is barely $1.50 and I've seen them on sale for cheaper too.
Regardless, you can't compare today's cars to yesterday's because today's cars have much more amenities and other features, and the manufacturers set the prices (they keep increasing the prices for even the same model). Also, there are many makes and models that have prices pretty close to 2-3 decades ago (the Camry and Civic for example).
As for gas prices, they are set by the producers (often the countries) and they go up and down depending on the conditions of the economy and geopolitics.
I don't think you know exactly how inflation works.

Today's prices are supposed to be higher than yesteryears because labor is more expensive and wages are also higher. Things are more expensive but then wages are higher. They all even out. Wink

I agree with you, it's just a matter of time. Sooner or later we'll realize.
