This is a little high for a 4070, especially when last year's 6700s was $1600 full price. 4070 isn't that much improvement, at least when you consider the 6700s has been on sale for $1000 recently. May not see that price again, but still. The 4080 is a much better upgrade because its a big performance improvement with miniLED too (no mention of it here) but that thing is astronomically priced
I had the 4060 version but returned it because I wanted a 4070, so I ordered this one. The 4060 did get a little toasty in the middle of the keyboard, noise wasn't too bad, performance was good. From what I understand the previous versions had quality issues but the one I had seemed solid. Looking forward to upgrading this to 32GB (it has 16 soldered and 1 free DIMM slot) and dropping in the 99 dollar 980 pro 2TB I picked up from Amazon.

The 4070 is about 20-30% faster than the 6700s in rasterization, plus you get DLSS 3.0 for games that support it - I play at 1440p so this was important to me to have the extra performance.

How is the cooling in this thing?

I had the 2021 for a little bit, but returned it as the heat blowing on my mouse hand was too much to play with longer term

Only the 4090 has the miniLED, the 4080 has AniMe Matrix though, which the 4090 doesn't.

I bought the one with the 4060 for $1400, is the 4070 at least 14% better since it cost 14% more?

4060 version, played Diablo 4 Max Settings @ 1600p on Turbo, CPU reached 92c and 87c with cooling pad. GPU 89c and 87c with cooling pad. I don't expect much for this small form factor

Very good CPU for archiving files and other CPU bound tasks. Could be a good workhorse when not playing games. GPU is meh. Rather have RX7800/S when it releases

As someone who got the 2022 model with the 6900HS and 6700S dgpu...

Yes, this thing gets loud and hot... pretty unavoidable if you're going to cram beefy hardware into a sleek form factor. That said, it's designed and constructed very well. The screen is amazing and can get BRIGHT at at 500nits; I haven't had to put the brightness at more than 30% for any indoor condition. Really impressed with it overall and happy I bought.

But back to the heat-- my solution was to use Armoury crate to undervolt the cpu and dgpu pretty significantly and also set some custom fan curve profiles to try and curb the jet engines when under load. I haven't done benchmarking but I can tell you that with these settings the cpu doesn't really go above 80c when gaming and it still feels like it can perform. At WQXGA res, I get a reliable 30fps with high settings in Valheim and 40fps with medium settings.

The components in this thing are rated for much higher temps than 80c, so if you want to use it to its full potential, it should be fine (I believe it has 100c+ temp ratings at the minimum). But, yes, it will be loud and hot; expect temps in the mid 90's doing this. Even at 80c, I can feel the heat through the keyboard keys when at load. If you plan to do a lot of gaming and don't need as much portability, then you should get a gaming laptop with a bigger form and thus more room to breathe.

These things still get hot as hell, and will warm your fingers up nicely. Even with undervolting the temps will be lower but it will feel hot.

I want the 4080, the 4070 is pretty gimped in this gen laptops. And in black like the other markets get. White turns gross pretty quick I hear.

I agree, my friend got the Strix 3070 for like $1400 during the mining high days. Today it seems these should be lower than that esp the 7000 ryzens being not that much faster since they are just zen 3.

I wasn't sure how I felt about dlss3, but it seems like an extremely valuable and noteworthy feature for laptops in high end games that aren't competitive. Would love to hear from people who have this and what their opinions are
