Breathtaking Musicality

Proprietary Drivers for clean, detailed, balanced audio
Definitive Technology designed the drivers in the Demand Series to deliver a perfectly balanced, precise, musical sound.
Tweeters - Clear, Precise Highs
The D17 couples a laterally offset 1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter with our 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens. We offset the tweeters by 5 Degree , minimizing wave cancellations off the front baffle to deliver a more precise center stereo image and ensure clear, exacting high-frequency performance and detailed soundstage.
Midrange - Superior Midrange Detail
The D17's 6.5" patented Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) mid/bass driver provides greater excursion and output for superior midrange detail and punchier bass compared with other drivers of similar size.
Woofers - Deeper, Cleaner Bass
The D17's custom-woven 6.5" carbon fiber woofer produces superior cone rigidity for deep, evenly extended bass notes while preventing distortion-causing cone deformation that can occur with less rigid materials.
Dual 10" Passive Bass Radiators for visceral bass response
Twin integrated 8" passive bass radiators in each speaker produce extraordinary low-end extension for louder

Long story: I bought the L/C/R mid-April, left speaker tweeter wasn't working. Have been working with support for months, the initial speaker had components broken off the crossover board. Replacement crossover board was sent, but mid woofer had no output on that one. Replacement speaker was sent eventually after A LOT of back and forth. Bass woofers weren't working, turns out it had broken components on the crossover board again.
TL;DR: wouldn't recommend buying these. The sound is definitely good, but given the issues and the fact that they're discontinued, it doesn't seem like a good buy.
Buying speakers with powered components is just another possible point of failure. Better to just get passive speakers with a dedicated powered subwoofer. Plus, the resale value on these is virtually non-existent from my experience on the used market.

I recommend jamo and Klipsch brand. The support replaced my subwoofer twice, shipped replacement first and covered shipping both ways. Not the best quality but customer support and good warranty is enough to win me over.

Adorama is a sketchy retailer, they sent me two left speakers when I ordered this deal a few months ago. Had to go through a lot of hassle to return it, they kept asking for pictures and then told me I had to lug it to a UPS store miles away. Finally got a refund two weeks later

Never had a problem with Adorama, even with returns & replacements. In my book, top drawer retailer.

Been buying with Adorama for almost a decade (mostly camera equipment) and not one problem with shipment or returns. But nobody is perfect.
As for these speakers, definitive is pretty good. I haven't put ears on this set, but the pedigree is there.

FWIW these are not powered, they only have passive radiators at the bottom.
Not a ton of opinions out there for these, but there is some useful info in previous SD theads: (at $1400, at $1100).
I'm trying to build a HT system and was going back and forth on these last night and this morning. Sounds like a great deal if you get a working pair and can get loud. If the order is wrong or there's an issue with them, it'll be tedius to get them fixed/replaced, but will probably eventually happen. I'd have been fine with that, but if you don't want to bother your neighbors, one comment said they don't sound great at lower volumes, which is why I passed.
I had the def technology speakers w powered subs. 9060s. Decent sound quality but not great. Lot of issues. Returned them and got good speakers with a separate external sub. No issues and outstanding sound. My recommendation is following. Get a pair of martin Logan 40s. Pair os about $1400 on Amazon. Will blow these out of water. Or stretch budget little and get B&W 704s2 at Amazon for $1800. These will last 20 years of pleasure. You live once. Don't cheap out on speakers. So. Martin Logan and B&W.

You're damn right. Quality in sound is the only way to go. People don't know what they're missing. Most of these sounbar 1k deals are joke. Invest the same $$ and it'll last you 5 times longer.
