I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

Surprised no one is comparing the Onkyo RZ50? In my reading it has same or better audio performance and more features... including DIRAC for free instead of extra cost -
Probably because it's been debated before and people determined they prefer Denon and the features it offers over the RZ50.
This price range puts them in the same price range after purchasing Dirac Live(if they choose to purchase it).

Keep in mind sometime next year D/M will get the option to the other half of Dirac RC…DLBC, the RZ50 will not.

I would argue you do pay for Dirac, it's just rolled into the price.
Without Dirac I don't think $1300 for Onkyo would be as good a buy with it.

Very informative. Thank you. I thought denon had RC, DLBC on 4800. Do you think a firmware upgrade later by denon might support it?

Worth it to upgrade to this from the 2800? I have kef r7s. Right now it's just 2 but eventually will go to 2.1. Got the 2800 last week when it was 599.

A couple of things
1) For those upgrading and/or got a extra receiver hanging around. I just figured out you can (reduction depending) an hdmi from your computer as an input and have the output to a monitor and have home theater speakers/sub vs computer cones..

2) had an older denon (2017 model) that with its media input on the back cause the video being displayed turn black while sound still played, tried different hdmi cables and nothing. Changed input to another slot and all and hood again. Who knows what happens with that specific one. Shame

The word is from the 3800 on up will get the option to purchase DLBC some time next year, DL is available now on them.

Thanks...I bought it. Now the hunt for speakers.
You won't find the LSiM's anymore, but SVS has an Prime/Ultra line that are comparable and very highly rated. Plus they go on sale for every major holiday and CS is outstanding (they are sending me a new amp for my coil whining sub as we speak). Other great options are out there, but I haven't done research in 5 years.

Wow, it's cool to see someone has the same speakers as myself. I have the 707's, 706c and 703s for the rear, with a emotiva amp and a SVS SB16 ultra. I'm finally changing the denon x3300w for this. Hopefully it's a significant upgrade.
Ha! Awesome. Did you get your LSiM's from Adorama about 5 years ago like I did? When the UPS guy brought them up the driveway, they looked like he and his buddy were carrying coffins. I didn't realize what I was getting into. Good times.

My x3400h died and Denon warranty was terrible. Went with Yamaha after and never looked back.
How's the sound compare between the two to your ears? I prefer the warmth of Denon sound to Yamaha's precision. I did look at the A6A when it went on sale last month, but I wasn't sure I wanted the sound profile. Both good AVR companies, but they definitely sound different in their own ways.

If you have no brand preference, comes down which features are more important to you.

Here is a comparison of the two:

Keep in mind you only pay/get for Dirac Live with the rz50,
You will get the option for the other half of Dirac RC….DLBC with this some time next year.

Some who want to research a bit might want to check this out. Similarly reviewed the 4800 and had better stats and was recommended. https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.38574/

If you have the Edge Adororama card. You can get an additional $50 off. But won't get the 12m finance promotion. And vice versa. This is a great price for a semi newly released receiver with all the bells and whistles.

You mean the license comes with the RZ? How much is a license anyways since the Denon is upgradeable to Dirac?
