I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

Probably because it's been debated before and people determined they prefer Denon and the features it offers over the RZ50.
This price range puts them in the same price range after purchasing Dirac Live(if they choose to purchase it).

Keep in mind sometime next year D/M will get the option to the other half of Dirac RC…DLBC, the RZ50 will not.

I would argue you do pay for Dirac, it's just rolled into the price.
Without Dirac I don't think $1300 for Onkyo would be as good a buy with it.
And some people prefer the Onkyo...actually pages and pages of AVS forum members seem to be quite happy with the RZ50

Personally I think its two horns on the same goat...with neither offering any big deal over the other with pluses and minuses for both

Thanks...I bought it. Now the hunt for speakers.
I'm running 7.4.4 atmos (emotiva amp for fronts) with Polk references & SVS SB3000's. Sounds incredible. You'll see the references go on sale every now and then, but the R700 is an amazing speaker that I can highly recommend.

You mean the license comes with the RZ? How much is a license anyways since the Denon is upgradeable to Dirac?
The license come with the Onkyo

The license is $349 for the Denon and you will need the necessary calibration mic that is about $100-125

Some who want to research a bit might want to check this out. Similarly reviewed the 4800 and had better stats and was recommended. https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.38574/
I'm holding out for the 4800 or 6800 when/if it arrives.

Sorry I disagree IMO even if you look in prior post of Onkyo in here people choose/gambled with Onkyo to get Dirac not because they preferred it.

One big important "plus" IMO is preference, just look how people continue to buy Yamaha.

Room Correction is another as you can tell how many people want Dirac.

Having BOTH Dirac RCs(DL & DLBC) is great, having the option of both is a big "plus" IMO.

Personally DLBC is slightly more important, I think Dirac does too, since their new ART is largely based on it.

Then that is your preference and should be stated as such...not referenced as something that " most people" have stated

Yes..there are preferences. I personally have had probably the best reliability and best customer service with Yamaha products...so I can understand that

DLBC is not available in a Denon/Marantz product now
Additionally, as I said before, I dont think all those add ons of DIRAC and the needed mic make sense at this price point

If I was on a tighter budget , and wanted Dirac, I would buy the Onkyo. if I liked the Denon I would buy the Denon and use Audyssey

Check out some direct to consumer brands like Aperion Audio or Ascend Acoustics. Both have trial periods and pricing ends up being very competitive when they cut out the retailer. I have had some Aperion Verus speakers for about 8 years and love them
Second Aperion. Have used them for 8 years rock solid, sounds amazing and customer service is top notch. Dog ate my midrange tower driver "don't ask" lol and Aperion was able to get me an 8 year old replacement driver for a very low cost. New stuff is even better. Also eb*y has killer deals on older towers. YMMV

Thanks for comment- I hadn't looked at price for dirac bc license - that's higher than I'd be willing to pay at this point+

I thought it was funny that after months of searching I finally pulled the trigger on RZ50 from Amazon when I saw 1099 price yesterday afternoon ... Then I see this deal and start questioning everything again

I currently own a 8 year old marantz receiver and decided its time to upgrade (even though nothing is wrong with my marantz). I wanted dirac so I got the rz50. I ended up returning it because the hdmi switching sound drove me nuts. Also has issues when turning on. I returned the unit. It turns out thats how onkyo does things.

Ha! Awesome. Did you get your LSiM's from Adorama about 5 years ago like I did? When the UPS guy brought them up the driveway, they looked like he and his buddy were carrying coffins. I didn't realize what I was getting into. Good times.
Definitely did! My UPS guy that I've known for years asked me if I was trying to start my own club as he brought the massive boxes up the driveway. Is there a aftermarket area besides say eBay where my old reliable 3300w can find a new owner?

I personally would not be interested in all the needed Dirac add ons needed for an AVR at this price point

It doesnt make sense IMO...just buy the Onkyo/Pioneer unit

so you're going to keep the Marantz or get this Denon?

"Free" Audyssey with the $20 app can be made to sound like Dirac.

Well, I mean what I'm really complaining about specifically is the volume/mute/input OSD, which are the things you see frequently during use after setup. Setup GUI I don't necessarily care as much about because I don't typically make a lot of changes over time after initial setup.

Really ugly to see giant big black boxes for the volume display every time you change it, though.
You can shut the volume OSD off. I did that after an hour and never used it again.
