I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

Exact opposite. Onkyo TX-RZ50 blows the 3800 on the sound front. Features and app wise Denon is more polished.
The RZ50 absolutely doesn't. Unless you have measurements to back up the claim. The RZ50 and Denon doesn't beat each other out in terms of sound quality. At the end of the day it becomes preference in terms of what you need in a receiver at the end of the day. I have both receivers now. And I can't tell the difference between the 2 to say Onkyo with Dirac is better. Or Denon with Audyssey is better. And can honestly say you won't be disappointed in either choices.

Is Adorama a trusted website? I read mixed reviews.

Thank you.
It is a "legit" store to purchase from. Having been buying products from them for years now.

I personally think Audyssey XT32 has better bass management than what you get with Dirac on the RZ50, especially if you have multiple subs. You'd need to set up to Dirac Live Bass Control, which isn't an option for that receiver.

Thanks to the members that replied to my question. I ordered one to replace my ten year old Onkyo TX-NR809.

I have the following Polk speakers (also from a decade ago):
* Front - Polk Monitor 70 Series II
* Center - Polk CS2 Series II
* Rear - Polk Monitor 50 Series II
* Sub - Polk PSW505

To get the Atmos setup with this receiver, I need to buy some up-firing speakers now (my ceiling is 8 ft high where this setup is) and some bass shakers (that I think this receiver supports).

Any recommendations for the up-firing speakers and bass shakers that will go with my setup?

Thanks!!

There are no composite / component inputs.

How many have experienced Denon flashing red light of death. Seems after a few years you are done. Thanks for playing. Another $1000 for a new receiver.

Unless you stand 8ft ceiling should work, it's the minimum.

If you still don't want to do that, in general you are better off going with height positioned Atmos speakers IMO.
Good thing is you can actually try them in both placements.

They have a few options, legends are a good option but pricey for most people.

I've owned several & and know several others that do/have also.
Not one has, only reason they bought another one was for an upgrade.

Keep in mind every brand has a failure rate.

I'll say this in every thread, the thing that really bothers me is there apparently has been no improvement in the on screen display gui/graphics for things like mute and volume controls. This apparently looks as bad as my 6 year old X4400h.
If I'm not mistaken the x4400 was $999 and now we have to settle for the X3300 replacement for $999? Not me! I think I gave $599 for my X3300.

How come newer, more expensive, AVRs are including fewer HDMI inputs? My 2017 model X4400H has EIGHT inputs and this only has six. While I lack HDMI 2.1 for my Xbox Series X and thus have to connect it directly to my TV and then pipe sound back, everything else is fine. But I'd maxed out all the inputs at one point with all my various consoles, streamer boxes, and disc spinners. Now, perhaps, six inputs would suffice, but why be limited for these prices?

The X4400 MSRPed at $1600 in 2017, but I got mine for $800 in August 2018 when Amazon slashed the price and I PMed with Beast Buy. I also got my X2200 for $500 (reg. $800) in April 2016 when the Xx300s came out. When new models coming in are requiring last year's models to get broomed is when to score deals.

I've had three in different rooms. No changes to set up or devices and then dead. So I guess I am unlucky or there is planned obsolescence.

As someone who used to run most of those same speakers as mains, I'll just mention that you'll get more bang for your buck with a speaker upgrade than with this AVR.
