This model has trackpad issues. I bought it from Dell and had to return it.
Looks really good on paper. Need to read up on the Trackpad issue.

EDIT : The touchpad issue seems to be a deal breaker as lot of people seem to be facing it. I also faced touchpad issues with my previous laptop and struggled to get rid of it, not doing that again
You answered your own question: it ain't a MacBook.

Out of nowhere, the cursor will start shaking. It's very random. Don't know what triggers it. Uninstalled and reinstalled trackpad drivers, Dell customer rep tried to fix it, nothing helped. After restarting the laptop, the trackpad will behave as expected for some time (which can be minutes or hours). I knew about this trackpad issue even before I bought it from reading reviews, but I thought that maybe those people got a lemon. Unfortunately, the problem is more prevalent than I hoped. Otherwise I liked the machine. On the heavier side, but the build quality felt very premium, the display was nice.

This is precisely why I read these comments. I'm already dealing with a touchpad issue on my current Dell. It's a deal-breaker for a laptop I would otherwise strongly consider.

Why would you stay away from Inspirons? You think all Inspirons use this trackpad? They don't.
Why taking chances? Especially considering that company doing nothing to resolve that for those who bought it

Oh, so you mean you will stay away from Dell completely then...no Inspiron, no XPS, no Vostro, no Optiplex, no Latitude, no Alienware.

Yeah, that's pretty terribly logic. Every company has issues with certain products at certain times. You need to understand that they are constantly sourcing new components from 3rd party vendors. They do their best to vet and test things but with release cycles so short it's hard to catch everything.

Historically Dell has been one of the most consistent and reliable computer vendors, especially in their business lines.

But hey, you do you. I warn you, however, with your logic, you won't have anything to buy from anyone as you will have boycotted every company that exists.

Keep hunting for perfection!

It's refurb for a reason. I wont purchase dell inspiron laptop anymore. They have either heating issue or battery issue within less than a year. After they replaced the battery/ fix the issue, the same problem will occurs within couple months (outside 1 yr warranty). It is a known issue for inspiron and latitude laptops

Let's be honest: nothing is perfect, and the same can be said for most consumer products. I have been using Dell hardware (over 20 different devices) for the last 20 years, and they have been very reliable.

All battery is consumable with an average lifespan of 2.5 years or 300 charge cycles (from 0 -100 300 times). It's chemistry. Depending on your usage case, the time will vary between users. If your batteries constantly die within a year, there is something wrong with your usage case and maybe a laptop is not the best for your use case, plug-in all the time.

Can the use of a mouse negate the track pad issue?

Exactly. Specs are of no use when the machine struggles with basic hardware issues.

Well, you can but not a lot of people wanna deal with that. That's something that you should think of carrying around all the time. Portability is the key aspect of thin and light laptops, so mandating users to carry a mouse now defeats half the purpose

Because a mouse is so heavy or takes up so much space?

Seriously? To each his own. Call me old-school, but I almost never use the horrid touchpad as I work at least 10x faster using a mouse to navigate around. A wireless micro-mouse in the laptop bag...weighs next to nothing and take almost no space.
