I finally saw one in-person in Costco. These are pretty small / tiny. The previous iteration of these were marketed more as a portable outdoors "stove" for boiling, cooking, etc. This one looks like it's targeting more of the "urban" covered patio type of crowd. That being said, it doesn't really excel in heat output / warming people up with "2 feet radius" being real generous. I suppose one can gather around and do marshmallows together. For me, I'm still confused as to the practical use of these but I do like the fact that there are multiple colors now aside from just stainless steel Smilie On sale the price point seems decent as well especially when splitting with someone else.

Don't do it. Just buy a jetboil and you'll be 100x happier.

These look cool, but then again, they look like the same size of some candles I already have.

In reading reviews, a lot of people prefer the alcohol burning table top fire pits over these. Most people use them for ambiance or making s'mores and the alcohol burning ones are much more convenient and burn for longer and they look just as nice.

I concur. The solo stoves are annoying to fuel and clean up. The alcohol ones are clean, use common isopropyl alcohol as fuel, and can even be used indoors

My question is could I use this for heating food on a skillet, like when camping? Anyone try yet?

This deal looks great but If I could use it as my only fire source for cooking, that's gonna pull the trigger for me Smilie

EDIT: Found my answer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2l5V6WeG7Y&t=6s

That guy says it's a cooking ring, and it boils water so yeah!

I really like mine for evenings on the deck. It uses pellets so it's easy and inexpensive to run and makes a huge flame. The Mesa XL is a better size but this one is still pretty great.

I do agree I would love to find a Mesa XL under $50. But these are neat little pits that give you the benefits of a fire but is easy to bring our, cools faster, easy to clean and doesn't burn through wood like a full size one.

I picked up one of these at one of those liquidation stores for 25 bucks, it was certainly worth it at that price.
Even at this price, its still not great though.

A few notes:
This does not really produce much heat, its not meant for that.
It makes fantastic smores.
Burns hot and fast, one full stove was enough for two sets of smores.
Can also use pellet fuel from pellet grills, but why would you bother with that?

The main reason I bought one was for the times we go camping during fire restrictions and the GF still wants smores, a couple of times I had to resort to cutting a soda can into a similar style stove (and all the nice burned off chemicals that entails).

It would have been a great thing to have back in college too, where you cant justify (or store) a full sized pit.

What principle/technology they use in these to make it "low smoke?". Where does the smoke go? Can they be used with wood burning and for light cooking at home?

Its just optimized airflow. The way they are designed pretty much eliminates smoldering fires if used properly, reducing smoke. Both these and the big ones actually do make a difference compared to open burning, surprisingly.
You would not be able to cook anything effectively with this.

Most smoke that you see is just unburned fuel going up in to the air. Smokeless fire pits work by feeding more air into the fire, causing the fire to burn hotter. This results in more complete combustion, so that more of the fuel gets burned instead of going up in smoke. The result is that there's much less smoke.

Note that this only works when the fire really gets going - there will still be smoke when you first start the fire because it won't be burning hot enough yet. Smokeless fire pits also have the drawback that they use more wood or other fuel than a regular fire pit.
