I'm surprised how many SoFi fanboys there are, 4.5% is on the low side these days for HYSA
If you're only in it for the yield then you are correct, there are better options out there. However, if you're looking for a great banking experience where you can manage most of your finances in one place, with access to lightning fast ACH transfers, then SoFi is worth trying. I've used half a dozen banks over the last 12 months and the others don't come close.
Just know that this is coming from a guy who would normally go with the highest yield. In this case I'm willing to give up a few basis points for everything else that SoFi brings to the table.
Opened a Sofi account a few months back just for a HYSA. Zero limit on the rate based on amounts unlike my local CU (something like 2% on the first $1,500 or something stupid) and direct deposit has no set minimum. Currently have 1% of each paycheck DD to Sofi and I get the full rate.
4.5% is pretty damn good even if there are better out there.

Agree. Willing to give up a few points given that I get my paycheck a few days earlier than I used to, and money transfers are so fast.
I also signed up for the credit card and got 3% back on everything in the first year up to the earning limit which was $450 cash back bucks or something.
Robinhood will lock you out of your account when you least expect it and pretend it was a glitch. They've been under SEC watch for a few years now because of their relationship to scamming daytraders and the whole Gamestop/AMC trading fiasco during lockdown. I wouldn't put a dollar into them or Citi, who owns them.
Robinhood isn't owned by Citi. The hell are you smoking?

If you consider this a checking account (since you can treat your savings account as one, no limits to monthly transactions, if needed you can debit from checking account and have automatic overdraft from your savings) then you should look at this as the highest yield checking account available.
theyre usually sketchy banks or crypto scams. neither backed by the fdic. This is the best savings account available that i've seen that wont penalize you if you decide to move your money.

question. It says earn 4.50 with direct deposit so i opened with 5500 direct deposit into a savings account. So i could get the $250 but I am not going to deposit 5000 every 30 days to get 4.50 when i already get 4.30 from discover and do not have to do anything.
Am i reading this right?

Honestly I've just got to the point where anything beyond my monthly expenses and some emergency savings I want to keep liquid, I just move the rest from SoFi to Treasury Direct in 4-week T-Bills. They're yielding as much or more than the highest yield savings or money market accounts out there. Another option if someone wanted to stay in the SoFi ecosystem is move the funds to Invest and put them in one of the numerous ETFs out there that track short-term T-Bills. You wouldn't have to worry about the funds being locked in this situation and could trade them back for cash anytime too, although bond ETFs have other risks and caveats.
SoFi is a great bank, though, been really happy with them overall since signing up last year. Only problem I ran into recently is with the credit card they used to give you cashback points for online gift card purchases, but seems like they've clamped down on it now for cash equivalent purchases. But it is what it is, now if I find a good deal on GiftCards.com or some other site, I'll just use one of the other cards in my wallet instead of theirs.
