Don't forget you will get a 1099 next year and will have to pay tax. Too little to bother with direct deposit. Wells Fargo and other checking account often have $400+ bonus.
Which also send you 1099s for bonus and interest? Any bank that pays interest and/or bonuses will send you a 1099 at the end of the year.
theyre usually sketchy banks or crypto scams. neither backed by the fdic. This is the best savings account available that i've seen that wont penalize you if you decide to move your money.
Honestly I've just got to the point where anything beyond my monthly expenses and some emergency savings I want to keep liquid, I just move the rest from SoFi to Treasury Direct in 4-week T-Bills. They're yielding as much or more than the highest yield savings or money market accounts out there. Another option if someone wanted to stay in the SoFi ecosystem is move the funds to Invest and put them in one of the numerous ETFs out there that track short-term T-Bills. You wouldn't have to worry about the funds being locked in this situation and could trade them back for cash anytime too, although bond ETFs have other risks and caveats.
SoFi is a great bank, though, been really happy with them overall since signing up last year. Only problem I ran into recently is with the credit card they used to give you cashback points for online gift card purchases, but seems like they've clamped down on it now for cash equivalent purchases. But it is what it is, now if I find a good deal on GiftCards.com or some other site, I'll just use one of the other cards in my wallet instead of theirs.
Care to share how to use SoFi to get Treasury Direct in 4-week T-Bills? I am guessing you need to open an investment account with them and can not do this through savings?
Wealthfront gives 4.8APY, no monthly deposit is needed
Obviously there are other banks out there with higher APYs, but the way sofi provides value is by switching to them for checking, and then your gaining 4.8apy on your normal checking activity balances. The fact that the checking uses the savings for overdraft protection, and there are no transaction limits or fees on the savings, you park all your money that you normally hold in your checking gaining no interest in the sofi savings, and then sofi pulls from your savings for all your checking activities. If you're looking for just a good savings rate to park cash, and are against using 4 week t bills (state tax exempt), then yeah you will find something slightly better elsewhere. The value is in the checking/savings combo. And you can direct deposit $1 of your check each month to get the higher apy if you really want. Most payroll companies allow you to split your direct deposit.
Will I be able to park my nomey at SWVXX and pay my bill or withdraw cash from atm from SWVXX? Thank you!
More appropriate for your emergency fund or savings for large purchases… not to be used as a checking account. I personally moved my emergency fund and long term savings into Vanguard's VUSXX Treasury Fund.

Wealthfront 4.8APY is also a checking account and they also provide automated High yield bond ETF for 5.75APY.
Transfers from SoFi are unbelievably fast. I recently made SoFi my primary bank and considering it for investments too. I have had no issues. To anyone on the fence, it's definitely worth trying out. I think it took me all but 30 seconds to open the account.
Do they really pay all that interest? I'm down for free money
