Pretty big discount (70%) on some speakers. Haven't heard this line, but it should be fairly comparable to the highly rated Monolith T6 speakers ($400 each). Worth the gamble for some! I plan to use them as surround speakers instead of the primary L/R Stereo channels.

Reading the reviews on the T6, they were $200 each in April, so may be worth waiting if that is the one you really want, even though this is a great deal.
I got them at $129 and barely caught the new price in time. Monoprice refunded the difference.
They've replaced the first gen Andrew Jones Pioneer towers for me and holy cow...these destroy those. Far more detail and soundstage width from the tweeter and great low-end extension for 5.25" drivers. You can actually get away without a sub with these T5s, but having one does help them. Blown away for $200 total.
Other speakers I've owned are the Polk S15 and JBL 530. I'd take the T5 over those as well.

What receiver are you using? These are 4ohm impedance so making sure you had a receiver that was 4 ohm or the usual 6-8ohm impedance receiver like Sony does.

Good advice, thanks! Kind of want the T6 to pair with the awesome THX-365C (which I absolutely love) for a secondary system. Probably best to hold off then but wow on that price. Nothing is going to touch that for price.

speaker impedance is not a single number. it is a curve that varies by frequency. you need to look at the entire curve to see at what frequency range the lowest impedance occurs. and even if your AVR has the ability to select a lower impedance setting you should always use the highest setting. Otherwise you are neutering the amps performance.
How do the T5's and T6's compare?
I can't find any reviews for the Encore T5's online.
i have demoed both the t5 and t6 models. EVERY SINGLE DRIVER is different between those models. woofers are bigger in the t6, 6.5" vs. 5.25" and tweeter and has a larger tweeter, 25mm vs 20mm. so not surprisingly they have different frequency responses (which are both available on line). the t6 is an improvement as it goes lower and is smoother across most of the frequency range. don't be fooled by the fake high MSRP.
