If you tip a fridge or freezer on it's side to transport, be sure to set it upright for minimum 24 hrs before plugging in.

Yes you are right.
But that leaves me thinking; how does the fridge prevent food from freezing over in extreme cold?
The same way it keeps things cold when the ambient air is hot. Insulation coupled with a thermostat which runs or doesn't run the compressor.

I'd bet that also applies to non-temperature controlled garages. My garage is attached to the house and has hvac in it. It's not going to be extremely cold or hot like a detached garage may be.
Of course, most garages are not climate controlled (even when attached) while most living spaces are.

I got this one from Dallas, TX store for $350 about 2 month ago. I hauled it myself on the side in my toyota sienna van. Had to wait 24 hours before turning it on. Works fine since then.

I hate to get rid of my perfectly fine GE chest freezer, but I also feel like an upright will be easier to see what is in the back. Right now, I have no clue what is in the depths of the chest freezer.
We kept our chest freezer in addition to getting this one. Now the chest freezer isn't packed to the gills so it's a little easier to find stuff in it. It's turning into our ice cream freezer lol . . .

Same, including the Sienna van. Actually helped my brother get his too.

For those that are asking about garage ready. At this price it has to be a cheap compressor that won't be able to handle the high and low temps of outside.

I saw it at Costco today and was excited at first, but it really doesn't seem to fit 11sqft.. the plastic containers seem to have too much gaps and won't fit that much.
The drawers are removable. I use them for the "loose" stuff that doesn't stack well, and I have them removed for things that are in cases/boxes that DO stack well. Works well for my needs.

Can you give us a link for another UPRIGHT FREEZER of the same size for a less ridiculous price? Thanks in advance.

I guess the price is good for an upright unit. But, there are enough issues with this unit it's not worth the hassle. Manual defrost and half the space of a normal upright.

It would have to be $200 or less for me to be interested, and Ive had upright freezers at the house since childhood.

Got one of these during the July 4th promo, paid (effective price with discounts) $149 delivered for it. I haven't opened the box yet since I don't need it at the moment. I looked at it at the local Costco, it's very light and easy to move around (wouldn't be true if it's loaded with food of course). It's very basic, no digital anything, no fan or lights (I think) and I knew it was manual defrost when I bought it, but couldn't resist for the price. I'd think twice at $349 or $449 though. The one good thing is that it's so simple, there isn't much to break either.
Wait, how did you get it at this price? It was $349 in store and I've been eyeballing it.
