It likely won't be $20 this year, especially not on Switch. It's absolutely definitely not where to enter the FF world as a first game lol. It's a mediocre game with a confusing story but it's meant as a prequel to FF7 and you should 1000% play that first.

Is this game amazing? I've never played a FF before (true story) and I'm not a huge RPG fan. Something about this is drawing me in though. Anyone think this is a likely candidate to,drop, into the $20 range?

Quite possibly one of the worst games to introduce you to FF. It is a decent DLC for understanding ffvii remake and it isn't bad but much better choices out there.

Agree.
The dialogue has definitely not aged well.
But great playthrough if you're already invested in the FF7,
I bought this on PS5 when it released last year. It's honestly a fun game overall. I enjoyed the story. But people need to be aware this is a remake of a PSP game and it does show to an extent. This game is basically a prequel to FF7. I'd give it a 8.5/10. Would recommend playing, especially if you have already played the original FF7 or FF7 Remake.
My son just asked me about this. I'm telling him to just play FF7 itself. Although, I'm not sure where he will have 100 hours to play through the game. I was in college, so I had time to grind and raise chocobos and everything. He's in high school, which seems so much harder and busier than when I was in high school.

If you don't care about graphics, many of the older Final Fantasy games would be better. This is a good remake but of a side story.
Also would suggest checking out Persona 5 Royal, Nier:Automata or some of the newer Dragon Quest games if it is your first jump into RPGs.
