There's no contract for plans so there's never been a process for a decade now where you need to sign a paper for plan changes.
I think this is a downgrade from my 3 year old OnePlus.

If it has a rate plan requirement, it means it will change your rate plan in order for the bill credit to be eligible to be applied.
monthly device bill credits have compatibility requirements for bill credit to activate and payout (and continue to pay out) each cycle. Moving back to a noncompatible plan will halt the credits. Cancelling the line does too.
I wouldn't risk it.
