Just leaving this comment here for the benefit of others - This is the Edge (Mediatek processor) and not the Edge + with the Snapdragon processor.

Call 833-428-1765 for Costco TMobile and you don't even have to go to the store at all. I did this deal on Sunday.

Why not open the phone and use it on t-mobile for one day or a few minutes making a few calls and sending a few text messages, then pay off the eip and ask t-mobile to unlock it (after waiting for 40 days or ask t-mobile immediately via t-force) if you want to sell it via ebay?
It reduces the risk selling openbox unlocked device vs. selling a locked eip phone, and probably gets more profit. For the minimum, you should pay off eip if you want to sell it sealed as you will continue to receive promotion credits anyway.
It's too much risk to sell devices on eips on ebay, unless you sell locally.
Is paying off eip possible per TMO terms? What would that cost?

New phone arrived. Got it using costco number. Rep said I can take trade in phone directly to tmobile store. Is there any paperwork to take with? I didn't get any label or paperwork emailed to me for the trade in.

You can pay off eip anytime and bill credits will remain as soon as you don't cancel the line.
The cost of paying off eip? Zero extra cost (just the remaining balance of installments) except for some interests you may earn if you use the money to do investment elsewhere.

https://my.t-mobile.com/myphone/checkorder.html should have your order and the labels. My rep also told me to drop off at a store but I'm not sure if it works for costco order

Where do you get this information? I don't know if I can find the battery for the phone. The costco rep told me I must send the battery as well. Of course I am not taking his word for it.
Any cell, any condition. The rep mentioned that people brought in cell phones without batteries and back covers. They take cell phones only, nothing else.

Spending a few hundred to lock us in for 2 years does sound like a win-win. It is probably a good marketing gimmick because several people will not take the trouble of jumping through the hoops (call + trade-in + receive + activate? + resell) to get the few hundred

Do we need to activate the new phones by putting the current SIM in it or can the phones be sold new unopened
How many times are you switching carriers? For the majority of people, they aren't switching so this is basically just a free phone.

$498 - 2*$20.75 you already paid (not actually paid out of your pocket because they are offset by the 2*$20.75 credits you should receive for this promotion) for the first two months' bill = $456.5. Then you are going to receive monthly credits of $20.75 for the remaining 22 months for a total of $456.5.

For whoever using this phone some recommendation.

1. Download adb tools, Download SDK Platform-Tools for Windows [google.com] SDK Platform-Tools for Mac [google.com] SDK Platform-Tools for Linux [google.com]

2. open "Setting - About phone - Build number", keep touch number about 5 - 7 times to unlock Developer mode.

3. open " Setting - System - Developer options - Debugging - USB debugging" turn it on.

4. Connect to your pc, your phone will pop " Allow USB debugging?", hit allow,

5. Unzip the file you downloaded, I unzip it in the root directory of the C drive.

6. open 'command prompt' from you Windows PC[all of below for Windows, if mac and linux open 'terminal' ]

7. enter "cd C:\platform-tools" [ this is in my case, enter path for your folder if different folder in your case]

8. enter "adb devices", it should come back result like "
* daemon started successfully
List of devices attached
XXXXXXXXXX device"

9. enter "adb shell"

10. copy all of command unless you want to use Specified carrier apps, paste and hit enter from your keyboard.

FYI, if you want to use t-mobile app, remove any command relate with tmobile, if you want use verizon apps, remove command relate with verizon. etc. all of apps doesn't show in you phone but it run in your phone, These are the apps that come with the manufacturer. in the command I don't remove my t-mobile unlock app, because I will use it when I need to fully unlock network lock with t-mobile, it has be fully pay off EIP and using t-mobile sim 40 days to unlock in the app.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now to December 2, 2023 whoever activate the phone, open the google one, getting free 1 year Google One with 100GB, it will require valid payment method.
