I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

I just realized I could have activated fi on my pixel 2's esim and avoided the physical sim part of the equation. Oh well.

I made a new gmail account and bought a fi sim from best buy today for my spouse. Activation went well however I'm only seeing the 24 month bill credit thing and not the $500 off.
Since you're an "established" Fi member, I wonder if you can add your spouse to your Fi group plan so she can order her S23 with the instant discount. Maybe someone who uses a group plan can provide the procedure for doing that.

I don't know about that. Several people activate a trial Fi membership using the eSIM of their phone and that didn't go well. Their activation of the S23 was seen as by "a new member".

I thought it was one per account. When I go to add a new group member I see a banner that says "New members get a phone on us after 24 monthly bill credits" but maybe because she's not technically a new member she'll be able to buy the phone on discount within my plan?

Below is a screenshot of the terms. I think the "must be an existing Google Fi member" is NOW a sticky point because we don't know how long one has to be a Fi member to be offered the instant discount.

Disregard my suggestion to use a group plan. Below is a screenshot of the terms. I think the "must be an existing Google Fi member" is NOW a sticky point because we don't know how long one has to be a Fi member to be offered the instant discount.

Thinking I'll wait the 2-3 days for her bill, then add her to my account. Then I'll order the s23 on discount, then activate it on her fi account and hope for the best???

Chances this will work? Chances this will mess up my s23 deal?

Can you please confirm what all steps you did previously

Also we're you at any time a previous member of Google Fi .

It's a bit hard to believe that just now google Fi changed its policies . If it was they have known this trick for years now and I highly suspect Google has moved in to stop it now

Another point of contention could be that the offer date change (10th September to 20th September ) somehow messed up with showing the promo code to you as you were in middle of the process then .

Also I would not rely on any tech support as I have had pretty bad experiences all around even across the best of the brands.

The latest one is a friend whose Z Flip 5 preorder was auto cancelled by Samsung on the last day of preorder and they promised they would be giving a price match across all channels and now rejecting the same saying the order had a preorder code involved .

Tldr : Share the exact chronology of events with the dates and whether in the past at any time were you a Fi member ignore the tech support who also work on permutations and combinations like us
The offer is confirmed not working . Myself and several others just bought new Fi sim's today and tried to activate and its gone, i basically missed out on it because on the 13th I didn't order the phone when I saw the offer, that was the actual last day that it was available to new members.

Basically google took the offer away somehow for new members.

If I would have just bought it on the 11th when I first got the sim and saw the offer I would have the phone in hand right now, but since basically I waited 3 days for my 3rd day of the billing cycle and google deleted the offer, looks like I'm out of luck.

I don't use a group plan, so I don't know the exact details of how it works. I know that a group plan consists of a group owner and peple whom the group owner invited and added to the group. I know that the invited group members each must have a Google account, but I'm not sure if each must have their own Fi account. I know the group owner is responsible for the group bill which covers all group members (and they reimburse the group owner if that's the arrangement). Each group member is eligible for the deal, but I'm not clear if the group owner orders the phones or each group member orders their own phone and pays with their own credit card.

Maybe someone who uses a group plan can offer some details or you can ask Fi support.

Searching this thread I'm under the impression that only the group owner can buy the phone, not members. So I would be buying her the phone because only I can see the discount.

I don't see anything in the terms that would suggest it wouldn't work.

From the page that you linked to, be aware of this clause "For individual plans, limit one per person. For group plans, limit one per group plan member.". I don't know how the order needs to be placed to indicate that it's for another group member, not you (who already used the discount).

Can the phone be activated on the existing line after Sept. 20 with the discount intact?

The way I see it, the terms (instant discount) were applied when you ordered the phone. The discount is listed in your Fi Savings-->In Progress checklist. You just need to activate the phone within the allotted time to get the countdown rolling so the promo terms can be completed.

It also says "Purchase the device or currently be in a group plan with the purchaser."

I chatted with two people from google fi who said I could use the promo twice, one for me and one for her.

I added my spouse to my account and ordered the s23 for $400 off. Let's roll the dice, hopefully it works.

Please educate me on group plan:
1. Does your spouse have her own Google account? I assume yes.
2. Does your spouse have her own Fi account? I assume she signed up today with the BYOP SIM.
3. When you order the phone for your spouse, how did you indicate that it was for her and not for you? Did you somehow tie it to her Fi phone number?
4. Is the order charged to your payment method or hers?
