I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

I'm not doubting what you posted, just wondering how it works. With step 3, how does it know whom the phone is being purchased for so that it can tie the S23 to that phone number when activated. Is that based on whose Gmail ID is used to log into the Fi app on the S23?
thats what I guess but unless someone who has previous experience with these Group Plan speaks up we just need to play the waiting game to figure it out .

PS : did not see the subsequent posts. Seems that the method should work and that the Google FI app links via the gmail for all the devices

I just got a PM from another member who activated a BYOP SiM today and didn't see the "instant discount" offer, only the 24 months credit. (I can still see the instant discount offer). So looks like Fi now requires one to be a member for xx days before they get the instant discount offer. The BYOP SIM trick no longer works. It was good while it worked (for almost 2 months). I will be updating the Wiki.
I activated new BYOP sim on September 14th and today (September 16th), I do see bill generated (reads still finalizing it) but still sees 24 months credit.. I will check again later but seems like they change it...

I'm late to the party as usual. Frown since the BYOD SIM is no longer available, what's another way of becoming an existing Fi member? I tried going backwards in this thread and it was too overwhelming. TIA

One becomes a Fi member by buying a phone from Fi through one of the deals offered to new members, or signing up using their own phone with a BYOD SIM (bought for $10 and get a $10 Fi credit) or with a free SIM shipped from Fi. It's not that the BYOD SIM is no longer available, but Fi now seems to require one to be a Fi member for xx days (we don't know how many) before being offered a deal for existing members.

This deal is scheduled to end on Sept 20th anyway, so wait for new Fi deals that are available to new members.

I have a friend with account and he doesn't need the promo but he needs his number and plan how can I get the promo trough him?
I have an Idea of giving him the Sim I just activated with the same plan he already have and switch the numbers
Or just open with his account one more Sim and just change the number ?

how's google fi compare to mint mobile? I am currently paying $115 for 4 lines, and t-mobile won't give me any discounts on new devices. I am thinking about switching to mint mobile, but google fi is a good option as well?

If your friend has been a Fi member for a while and is offered the instant discount, see the posts below about having him add your Fi account to his Fi group plan, then order the phone for you, and when you receive the phone install the Fi app on the S23 then log into it WITH YOUR FI ACCOUNT to activate the phone.

I don't use a group plan, so I can't vouch for the info in those posts. Just wanted to point you to them. BTW, the deal is scheduled to end on Sept 20th so do it soon if you want the deal.

Not surprised. Don't think deals will get worse between now and the s24 release

That should give more time for people to find a friend/family member with long-time Fi membership to buy the S23 for them.

Can this phone be used with another person's Fi sim or any other sim without affecting the deal?
