I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

Has anyone signed up and kept the Google Fi phone protection for $12/mo after using this deal? If I keep the service for the required 120 days then cancel, am I still able to keep the Google Fi protection plan on the phone? If that's a yes, am I also able to continue with the protection if I pay the device off early (say in a couple months after the 120 day window)?
For anyone else needing this info, this is what I got from customer service via chat:

You can pay off the phone early and continue to use Google Fi's device protection for $12/mo while your account is active.

Once the Google Fi account is cancelled, the protection is also cancelled, regardless if you are still paying the device off or not.

It's stated in the 1st attachment "If you cancel service at any time before the 24 months, you will forfeit all remaining monthly credits".
A better offer is currently available at offline only at Bestbuy. You can get a S23 Ultra 512 GB for 679.99 + taxes or 256GB for 629.99 + taxes . Also you need to signup for a new line / account with ATNT and cancel it within 3 days to avoid any charges / activation fees on the account

I have personally availed one for myself ( could not resist the offer ) and it is better till you are fine with ATNT do a soft credit check on you

I don't like to do those sign-up-then-cancel phone deals. I don't know if they're reflected poorly in your consumer file, although I have very good credit scores and don't really care about a credit check.

I like smaller phones so I'm using an S22 and have an S23 from a Fi deals in Feb sitting in the box as a spare. My sister came to visit us earlier this month and she asked me to order the S23U for her. I got it set up and she's using it with her T-mo serice. I'm using my Fi credit to cover the required 4 months of service, 101 more days to go.

Probably will be replaced by a Pixel 8 deal. The Pixel 8 is supposed to be released on 10/4/23.

Yep, deals for existing Fi customers with required 120 days of service....$300 off Pixel 8 and $400 off Pixel 8 Pro. Trade-in offers are available, but Trade-In Values are low, and curiously the base iPhone 11 is not on the accepted trade-in phones although older iPhones like 8, XR, etc are on the list.

Someone can start a new thread on it if they want.

Started a new thread for Pixel 8 deals
https://slickdeals.net/f/16964599-pixel-8-pro-for-599-pixel-8-for-399-for-existing-google-fi-subscribers-399

It's interesting that they basically took the discount away for S23. Google really wants to push people to get pixel 8 instead.

Google Fi is not honoring the deal and is claiming I'm a new customer even though I originally had a plan on a different phone and activated it on the new phone. Why would they allow me to purchase the phone for the discounted price if I'm a new customer? Makes no sense.

You should have returned it the moment your rebate didn't show in progress.

Doesn't seem like Google Fi is ever going to return with good deals for new members without locking them into 24/36 month contracts. Is that a fair assumption?

That seems to be the trend except for older pixel like 7 and 7 pro which is discounted up front and you have to stay only for 120 days.

I snoozed on this deal even though I have Fi credit - my account is in limbo as I ordered a sim on a dead account but never activated it

at this point I am thinking of upgrading from s22 to s23 for the better battery, if there is an insane BF promo but perhaps at this point I should just wait to see what the s24 preorder deal is

upgrading phones every year is a pain in the arse even though there is Samsung Smartswitch it still requires a lot of setup

Speaking of which , its a good time to do a backup

Using Smartswitch to transfer things between two Samsung phones is simple and easy. Plug the double-headed USB-C cable into both phones and set the USB option to File Transfer. Select what you want to transfer and off it goes. I like the fact that Smartswitch will transfer apps, phone settings (wall paper, home screens, display settings...) besides the typical media files, contacts, call logs, texts...The new phone is pretty much a clone of the old phone.

Rumor is S24 is coming earlier than usual in January next year so it might not be that long of a weight. Although if the other rumor of removing 10x telephoto lens and putting a 5x one comes true I'm not sure if it will be much better than S23U though.

BTW you are considered a new customer the first 2 weeks of starting service. You cannot get the deal for existing customers until after then.
