Just know you need to vacuum the lines out to remove water and oxygen. So you need a vacuum and guage set. Code requires a disconnect box near the unit. And it should sit on a concrete pad or rack. These are all additional costs you might not be aware of. I just installed one of these and I want to say, don't just match wire colors or you could fry the thing. The use white as line 2 and red as communication between the indoor and outdoor units.

I installed a costway. The remote control stopped working. They sent me a new one no questions asked.

With the bosch unit, the indoor unit drip pan had a crack and they wouldnt even hear my request to escalate it to tech support because a licensed hvac tech didnt install it.

Bruh, 9k is more than enough if any insulation at all lol

I recently installed 18k for a 500 SQ ft living room with 15 ft ceilings and it's far more than enough even when 95F.

18k won't dehumidify such a small space.

I assume since they don't mention it anywhere this doesn't heat down to outside temperatures below zero?
Anything below 32F and traditional heat pumps do a lousy job. Mitsubishi has hyper heat functions and those heat in low temps.
Think about it like this too....
In the summer when it is 100 out you cool to 70F. 30 degree differential.
In the winter it is 0F out you heat to 70F. 70F differential.
Heating takes a ton more btus because you're spanning a much wider temp differential.

Seems like it would be worth it to spend just a little more and get the 18k BTU unit. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd be installing this in an insulated 14' x 20' shop.
If your shop isn't constantly controlled, get the 18k. If you leave it on all the time get the 12.
Also the 12 has less amperage requirements, so depends if your placing on an existing circuit or not

Wut? Multizone is stupid bc of failure and you can't have heating and cooling at same time.
No, you don't need all those circuits. You can run multiple units off one circuit (run one large circuit outside and split). You only need 15A breakers outside (I get the mini breaker outdoor boxes and for whatever reason the breakers are 16A).
Why would you want to have hearing and cooling at the same time anyway?! Pick one bro!

I think it will be very wise to become versed in installing these as they are becoming very popular and in high demand. Prices are coming down and if you charge $300-400 to install I think people will pay.

New units claim efficiency down to -15f and -5f depending on the model.

I'm just interested in the ac primarily but see negative Temps a few weeks of the year and want to make sure it would be capable. In my situation it would only be occasional supplemental heat, not primary.

I have just consulted with one licensed HVAC that I was told is honest and good. He quoted me 1-2k to install one unit.

I really wish I could find one installer in the $500- range. I have 4 units to install.

Yeah the fact that they don't advertise the cold weather specs at all suggests to me that it won't work in cooler temps let alone below zero. Silly to buy one that can't handle the cold these days if you live in the north.

Anyone tried these codes plus their costway membership discount (15%) do they stack or need to use one of them?

Bigger isn't always better. These should be properly sized. Look up an online Manual J calculator and run the numbers.
I highly agree here. Always try to run your own numbers/ask for 2nd opinion on sizing.

In general, sales/contractors will often oversize as they often anchor based on gas units and old homes with zero to no wall insulation.

I was in a situation where a contractor recommended a boiler unit that turned out to be ~40% bigger than needed. He just went with what I had before. I wasted a lot of energy over the past 12 years...

Why don't you want an oversized unit? It might cycle on/off more often. To run your system more efficiently, you want to run it at a relatively constant pace as opposed to turning on / off every 20min. Maybe that less of an issue with variable speed heat pumps but still, sizing is super important

True. Cold climate is no longer an issue. Plenty of systems already out there with really good efficiency. You just need to compare specs. Some can already double the minimum heating / cooling efficiency min federal standards updated in Jan 2023.

Amazing to see how more consumer demand leads to more choices and efficiency gains.

Be a smart shopper - look for the most efficient units, size BTUs properly in addition to balancing brand and price.

Looks like these don't qualify for 30% credit under the Federal Tax Credit - Air Source Heat Pump.

Might be better to buy a DIY with pre charged R410 that qualfies than mess with R32 systems from Costway
