I have used them both because my friend reviews tech products for a living and I go over and play with them. This is a much stronger processor. It also supports a desktop mode and the a54 does not. This has a glass build wireless charging and a lot more flagship features.

Major benefit to the a54 is that it's going to be updated for a lot longer.a54 we'll get Android 13 and 14 and 15 and this will probably just get Android 14. And it won't get security patches for as long.

Personally I would go with the Motorola but if I was recommending a phone to a casual user like my mom or my sister I might lean with the a54 just cuz it'll be secure for a longer period of time and they probably wouldn't make use of the flagship features like the desktop mode or the stylus.

The Motorola also has stylus support with an external stylus you can buy, an amazing desktop mode with a dock. Definitely a more premium piece of hardware

Yes this been going on for awhile in The Feb thread.

Was thinking of getting one but
Slow Moto Android upgrades, no dual sim, avg cam, large size stopped me.

Was going to get it for $50 with in store port in...but boost stores charge MSRP tax, activation fees, and higher plan... Similar to metro stores...so I didn't go that route.

Just a little review here. I received the phone on Monday and have been using it since. For $200 this phone is a steal. I am updating from a Oneplus 9 that I got last year on a Slickdeal from Best Buy for $150. The biggest issue I had was that it was only 128gb and the OnePlus 7 I had before was 256gb. This being 512gb takes away any space concerns which were a big problem before. The Snapdragon processor is top of the line and for me the Ready Now is a real game changer. I am able the phone on my desktop during work and now I don't need to use the phone itself at all for most things. It will also be great for using on vacation. I can just plug it into any hotel tv and have a desktop like experience or watch whatever I want from the phone. I was able to unlock it right away from Dr. Unlock on eBay who was recommended in the wiki. I am having the tracfone issue mentioned but I will order a new sim to have it transferred before the month of Boost is over. I also use Google Voice as my primary number so the actual service or phone number doesn't matter. No need to port my number when I switch services. I am no expert with cameras and i'm sure the cameras here will meet my simple needs. Overall this is a great deal to get a top of the line flagship phone at a great price.

Cross flashing with unlocked bootloader is very safe because you can manually flash partitions with fastboot command to recover even if the phone is soft bricked.
Cross flashing with LOCKED bootloader is very dangerous and shouldn't be even tried by less tech savvy users unless you know how to fix.

I personally tested cross flashing Motorola phones with locked bootloader, and the only time it succeeded was with flashing retail firmware on google fi version moto phones. That's because the google fi version has the same hardware and partitions layout (such as bootloader version and modem) as the retail version.

For all other carriers' variants, they have different partitions like bootloader/modem,which are protected unless bootloader is unlocked, from those on retail unlocked version and cross flashing will fail with locked bootloader.
So for future reference, what are the steps for crossflashing this to RETUS if boost abandons the phone? Odds are it breaks OTA, but i dont mind wipe reflash every six-twelve months.

1. unlock bootloader.
2. download retus firmware from lolinet.

Android 13 is out for the retus channel
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmw...ial/RETUS/

3. get flash commands from the .xml file inside the firmware. Use flashfile.xml if you want to factory reset or use service.xml if you want to update and keep data. (No need to erase data.)

4. Use fastboot to flash.

From what I could find it is significvantly faster in multi-threaded applications, and has better efficiency. And bigger battery, IP68. And can get at&t 5G which this 2022 is strangely incapable of.
I'm getting AT&T 5g on mine just fine. Make sure your AT&T sim supports 5g - not all of them do.

Weird...multiple reviews and Motorolas own website spec sheet states only 4G LTE on at&t and Cricket

All of these steps make sense and this is what I've previously been familiar with (I've owned and flashed a lot of different Motorola's over the years going back to an old Moto G Play in 2016).

The issue I think is the unlocked bootloader. Buying a carrier branded phone to my knowledge means it will always be bootloader locked. We can sim unlock it with a code on an auction site but this won't functionally unlock the bootloader.

What is keeping me away from this phone is the Boost variant still only showing A12 ROMs. https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmw.../official/

It is not Weird.
Most reviews are fake ... Many of claims in different threads (Boost moto stylus 5G etc.) said that the moto device does not work att or vz, they are all lairs even they do never own the device ... that is how misinfrmation is spreading

For those of you that ordered this: you got order confirmation, shipping info, etc.? I ordered one and got an error on final payment screen. So no confirmation, nothing like that. But the money was charged to my Paypal account, with nothing else to point to the purchase. What gives?

It's a common occurrence when you use Paypal. It's not recommended to use it.

Well, here is a datapoint that it does work. I'm quite happy with the phone. The last moto that I owned was the Moto X, then I went Samsung for a long time...

A couple of the moto features I missed are the twist for camera, and "chop chop" for flashlight. This phone has those classic moto features, and the phone works really well.

I upgraded from an S10+, so it was a big jump for me. The S10+ didn't support 5G, so it's great being able to get 5G now.

Unless you have your heart set on something else, I don't think you can really go wrong with this phone for the price...unless you are really concerned about those security updates (I'm not...).

OK I got that, but now what do I do? Wait for the phone to arrive or dispute the charge?

Sooo when I used PayPal, it did the same thing. It said "Payment failed", but the charge went through on PayPal's end.

I just placed the same exact order again - it went through that time, and it didn't charge me a 2nd time. Since I was using a credit card, I wasn't concerned if it charged me twice - then I would have disputed it....but it did not. I think that MAYBE the reason is because the initial charge is an authorization for a payment plan (so that Boost can continue to charge the monthly service to your PayPal), and since the amount was already authorized, when I made the order the 2nd time, it just worked. This is all just theory....

But it worked out for me. Once I received the phone, I cancelled the payment plan from within PayPal so that they can't continue to charge the monthly fee. It all worked out...

But yes, I've heard PayPal has been problematic for many, so it's probably wise to avoid it if possible.

When this phone was released in 2022, it didn't work with att 5g. On Motorola website, it said support for att 5g would come with future software update.
Now Motorola enabled support for att 5g with software update.
That's why you see reviews from last year saying it doesn't support att 5g.

US carriers variants like boost mobile, us cellular, metro and T-Mobile variants allow for bootloader unlock. ATT, tracfone, cricket, verizon variants don't allow for bootloader unlock.

That's awesome news, I did not know that!

Do you know if the bootloader unlock is the same process as if we purchase a "full unlocked" phone direct from Motorola? Or is there an extra waiting period and a requirement to maintain service with the branded carrier for X amount of time before it is eligible for bootloader unlock?
