Wow, this is a steal of a deal. If you only need a router or are okay with running a wire to another router as an AP if you need extended coverage for a single router solution this is a top performer. I have not seen too many reviews on it but the few ones I did see came from people who are very good reviewers and this router was able to put out about 1500Mbps to a high end device making it a top 3 router for 2023 in terms of wireless performance.

The cons for this router, NO mesh support, which is where running another one as a wired AP for extra coverage or any other AP would be needed.

Only supports OpenVPN so it covers a solid 90% of all VPN users.

No Wan/LAN aggregation.

Slow SMB1 usb network drive performance.

Besides those cons this is a steal at $100.

Thanks, useful info. One big factor is also software support and how MSI rolls out updates and fixes security issues. I like to keep my hardware at least 4-5 years.

I'm not familiar with them in the router context. What's their track record on that front?

Non existent best to my knowledge, this is their first foray into routers and they went all out on it. So there is no track record to look back at, so its a toss up right now on how it goes. This might be a 1 and done, or they might make more in the future.

If you get it and it works fine for what you need you, than it will continue to be fine even if it does not get a single update in the future so not really a big issue for 4-5 years. Security fixes would be nice though, but plenty of router manufactures dont even do that either. Tp-Link, Netgear, Belkin, D-Link to name a few have router models that have not been updated in years but still work fine. Only the extreme paranoid have to worry about getting hacked.

Looking at their website last firmware update was:

Any links for the good reviews? The reviews on Amazon don't look promising

Thanks, but I refuse to buy routers that aren't going to get security fixes for at least a few years. It's not just being paranoid. There are so many devices out there that are not maintained and co-opted into botnets or create unnecessary security risks for users.

I've stuck with Mikrotik and while their software is great in this regard, it's also way more complex than I'd like (and have time for). Their Wi-Fi hardware is far behind others as well. I guess I'll keep an eye out for Synology or Ubiquiti deals...

Yes the dongknows one is good. As for the reviews on Amazon only one looks legitimate out of the three. One came broken, so damaged in shipping, the other was purchased used, and the legitimate was one with actual beef about the product and its functionality.

Well as I mentioned above looks like they had a update just 3 months ago and also looks like they launched a Wifi 6E version of this router, so they will probably be sticking around for a bit, but again there is no track record to look at to know for sure.

For $100 this is the best deal on any router currently out there, if it was back to MSRP of around $300 or even $200 I would caution but for $100 to get something with this hardware I would not think twice to test it out, and didnt lol. I got 2 of them going to use them as high powered AP's when they show up if I dont end up using them as routers for people I know.

Couldn't resist ended up getting 3 with the 4 year warranty per unit which includes accidental damage for $18 a piece....

Im in no rush so that 1 month shipping time is not a big deal and as long as they work as reviewers said I will end up being able to use them in the future.

Would be nice to get the synology firmware running on this instead of the MSI version since they are supposedly the same hardware.

Amazon bot must be price matching. .97 seemed odd for amazon pricing but normal for costo clearance.

Man, is this too good to be true? I just bought the TP-Link AX3000 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX55 Pro) - Multi Gigabit Wireless Internet Router, 1 x 2.5 Gbps Port, for $129 before tax.

The software and future updates of this product are the only thing in question but for the specs at $100 I would easily recommend to go with the MSI over the TP-Link cause the hardware is just that good and the performance per reviews is that good.

Also as someone else mentioned they have it at costco if your in a rush so get it from there.
