It's a hobby. Like all hobbies, there are many people who spend a little or a lot of money to satisfy their desire to collect or experience their hobby in different ways. Some people spend thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands on watches, cars, cologne, purses, clothes, shoes, perfumes, knives, PC/consoles/games, etc. They don't need to be rich. They just need to budget out a portion of their income for entertainment and for their hobby. People who love music are no different.

I had the Hifiman HE6SE, Senn 800SE, Elegia, Elex. They were all very good, but the details and dynamics of these were a clear step above. I have always wondered how top Audeze cans would compare.
Stereophile recently gave a favorable review of the new Utopias.
I would highly recommend a set at this price to anybody in the end game headphone market.
It's well documented that humans are prone to associate price with quality. That doesn't mean these aren't "the greatest headphones ever" but it does mean that the average buyer is going to trick themselves into thinking they're better than they are, knowing they MSRP at 5 grand.

Bring on the haters......
Slate Audio has VSX, which I have and they can emulate just about anything.
We aren't talking real tangible differences between cars or even just the 'what you see is what you get' in jewelry (watches, whatever). We're talking about completely subjective sound stuff that depends entirely on your head/ear shape and your randomly generated ear organ-to-brain process that has a larger impact than the 0.001% improved sound profile or whatever shit that extra $2,000 gets you. Which might change after your brain adjusts in 2 weeks. Whatever. It's just completely insane to me.
You don't need to be an audiophile to tell the difference either. A free minute of listening and it's very obvious. Whether it's a more pure bass, the slight pitch in treble, or even open back vs closed. There are very tangible differences. You just need to research to lessen the differences, just like in a car, there are different models, you have to research to learn.
Now, if you want to research and figure how wrong you are check out headfi. Thousands of reviews and comparisons from real people.
The other annoying thing is that people constantly comment on what feature the product does NOT contain for that price. (often a feature that it was not supposed to contain). It is a free forum….so everyone is allowed to participate….but honestly….years ago…..quality products with higher price tags did not seem to get trashed as much as they do currently.
That is a rarity nowadays
Do people listen to these with a stand alone with battery powered portable audio player or do you need to be sitting down connected to the wall?
Do people use an iphone with an external headphone amplifier with a digital input?
I see it states for "home use" so these are not generally used in a recording studio.
I would love to own headphones of the "best" quality - I can't afford, but I would love to experience them to see if it was something that would be "worth the money" to me.
