The weekender bag in the original post dimensions are 13"L × 7.5"W × 5.75"H and comes with 2 3600 cases.

The one you linked to has 4 Plano cases and the dimensions are 13"L x 10"W x 9"H. Thought that might be helpful info for people deciding what they need.

I actually use a bag similar to this for all of my telcom/network tools and connectors, such as crimpers, wire scissors, punchdown tool, toner, cable tester, some screwdrivers, various keystone jacks and cable ends, etc. The one I use even has a plastic loop that I clip my butt-set to.
I had to modify the boxes by cutting some of the walls to fit the testers, but I've used it this way for probably 15 years now.

Got mine today - pretty disappointed. There's space for 3 cases, but only two are included (which means the cases are shallower than I expected). They're also a good deal smaller than what I' imagined. I'll still find a use for them, I'm sure, but just not the application I wanted them for.

anybody have any insight on the practical differences between the 3500 vs 3600? For a beginner fisherman and/or kids, mostly dock/shore fishing. Thanks.

I ordered the 3600 and saw the 3500 in store. The 3500 has smaller trays/boxes so the bag itself is smaller. For a beginner (which is what I am) will probably just be fine. I had bought 3500 series boxes because they were cheap on sale and put them in the 3600 bag. i have only used my two 3500 boxes and have not yet used the 3600 boxes that came with the bag.

The difference of the bag is only a buck or two right now. So i might say go with 3600. Although if you want smaller more compact easier to carry and fit in a small raft then 3500 would be better and you can buy two additional boxes to fit into it for under $5 where the 3600 boxes are closer to $22.
