Platinum Savings is a tiered interest rate account. Interest is paid on the entire account balance based on the interest rate and APY in effect that day for the balance tier associated with the end-of-day account balance.

APYs — Annual Percentage Yields are accurate as of September 3, 2024:

0.25% APY on balances of $0.01 to $4,999.99;

5.00% APY on balances of $5,000.00 or more.

Interest Rates for the Platinum Savings account are variable and may change at any time without notice. The minimum to open a Platinum Savings account is $100.

I've been banking with them for nearly 5 years. No major problems. My only issue is that their phone app is severely limited & kind of sucks. Other than that, if you send money, it arrives quickly & interest rates automatically raise without having to contact them. They seem to stay pretty competitive when it comes to the highest interest rate. I really like them & trust them with my money.

UPDATE: As of 06 NOV 23, the app on Android has been updated and reflects a top tier online banking experience. Very happy with the improvements that have been made.
You have more issues than just missing out on $10k!
Have been banking with them for many years. No issues, fast transfers, can manage everything online including closing accounts. Only negative is that their phone support sucks since they encourage online banking only, and they keep adding new account types with higher rates, and you have to open an account and transfer money to new account (which is pretty painless and done within minutes online)

Yes. I switched from one of their other savings accounts to this one. I believe I did it all online and it was simple.

I did speak with their customer service for sure though to close the other account and it was easy and the service was good.

I had a Savings Connect account with CIT Bank at 4.5% and I just went on the app to create a new account. It was very easy and transferred the money immediately.

This here is a pretty bad deal, especially if you have state with income tax.
Just buy treasuries instead. It is super easy at Fidelity and you can auto-roll when they mature.

Or if treasuries sounds too complex you can buy VUSXX (Vanguard Treasury Money Market Fund). Current yield is 5.1% and it is state tax exempt.

Or if all of the above sounds too complex, you can just open Vanguard brokerage account. All your unused cash is automatically invested in VMFXX (Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund) with current yield 5.09%. Note that this is not 100% state tax exampt, so you will have to do some math come tax time.
I'm interested in doing this, I don't want to have to keep transferring money between different banks. Currently with Charles Schwab, I'll check to see if they have this option.

Saw your comment and just went in to look. Definitely much more functional. Nothing worked under the old app and now it looks like you can view, navigate around and manage your account with the app. Still kind of looks like a high school computer science project, but much improved.

No one was giving 3-5% APY before the pandemic because the APY is tied with the Federal Funds rate. The federal reserve started hiking rates in March 2022. The current rate as of today is 5.33%. Before the pandemic the highest it reached was 2.42% back in April 2019 but it had already started to fall before the pandemic (1.55% in November 2019). You can see the history here: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FEDFUNDS

Mostly the APY you can get higher than the Federal funds rate are U.S. treasuries or CDs. That is true today.

The last time the federal funds rate was high was 2007 aka the great financial crisis. Recession.

Then the time before that, it spiked up in 2000. The dot com stock market crash. Recession.

Notice a theme? Recessions can lag 12-18 months. We might see one soon.....

Any chance I could move from my PayPal savings to CIT? Or would I need to move it to my checking and then open and move from there?

You can move money from Paypal to any bank. Paypal is going to make you verify the bank before transferring it though as a security precaution.

Trying to complete the very basic steps to open an account and it's forcing me to enter a second number. I don't have a work or home number and of course it won't let me put my cell as my home. Seems like a great way to detour people as no one really has a home or office number to enter.

NM. Seems you have to click in the box and then it shows that it's optional. All good.

Has anybody banked with them before? I was just looking at them over the weekend but don't know anyone that uses them.

Have this account for several months now. Great rate on a savings account, CIT is owned by First Citizens Bank.
