Platinum Savings is a tiered interest rate account. Interest is paid on the entire account balance based on the interest rate and APY in effect that day for the balance tier associated with the end-of-day account balance.

APYs — Annual Percentage Yields are accurate as of September 3, 2024:

0.25% APY on balances of $0.01 to $4,999.99;

5.00% APY on balances of $5,000.00 or more.

Interest Rates for the Platinum Savings account are variable and may change at any time without notice. The minimum to open a Platinum Savings account is $100.

I've been banking with them for nearly 5 years. No major problems. My only issue is that their phone app is severely limited & kind of sucks. Other than that, if you send money, it arrives quickly & interest rates automatically raise without having to contact them. They seem to stay pretty competitive when it comes to the highest interest rate. I really like them & trust them with my money.

UPDATE: As of 06 NOV 23, the app on Android has been updated and reflects a top tier online banking experience. Very happy with the improvements that have been made.
You have more issues than just missing out on $10k!
Have been banking with them for many years. No issues, fast transfers, can manage everything online including closing accounts. Only negative is that their phone support sucks since they encourage online banking only, and they keep adding new account types with higher rates, and you have to open an account and transfer money to new account (which is pretty painless and done within minutes online)

Just a quick question - At what point does the funding I put into this account become "available". It's been a few weeks but my "available balance" is only .01 It does show my balance as the correct number, but available is stuck at a penny.

Just want to make sure before I dump a large sum in here.

They'll be accessible in 2weeks after transfer. You'll see your overall balance and then usable balance. If you set up direct deposit then it's accessible right away. But if you're sending it from 1 bank to CIT then it's locked or on a hold for 2weeks

Been with them for many years. App is better but it still isn't the best. Also usernames are case sensitive which is super annoying as I end up trying to log into someone else's account occasionally.

No real issues though - I only joined so my money would be a little more difficult to access so I went impulsively spend it from my main bank account.

Wait, 2 weeks every time you transfer from another bank to CIT? If so, this is a deal-breaker..

I just got off the phone with them regarding bank to bank transfers. If you request funds from another back via your CIT account, funds arre automatically placed on a 5 business day hold. If you initiate the fund transfer request to CIT from your other bank, the transfer time is 2-3 days instead of 5, or so I was told.

I believe your money starts earning interest once the transfer shows up in your CIT account.

The rep is closer to being right than the 2 week time frame mentioned. It's not always the same business day hold. I've been with them many years, left once and then came back again. I've found that the days hold tends to go down with repeated transfers from the same source in the same method. For example, I transfer from Cap One to CIT maybe once every other month. My holds are in the ~3 business day range. My wife never transfers and when she went from the same joint Cap One account to CIT with her login, the hold was much longer, maybe ~7 business days (depending on day initiated, this approaches the 2 weeks mentioned). Interest does begin to earn once the money shows up, regardless of availability.

It's a great account for high interest and that's about where the greatness ends. The tolerable things are subpar are the case sensitive usernames, the terrible integration with some finance dashboards that consolidate your accounts, the slow money moves, and the only way to get anything done is with secure messages which take time with back and forths. For me, the rates outweigh the negatives.

If anyone knows of another high rate bank with very high or no limits on ETF transfers, please let me know.

money market funds such as TMCXX has been paying at 5.39%. Why use this???

To me, all these bank teaser rates are full of shit. My advice is use the stock market and if you don't believe in the market, invest in funds such as TMCXX. This is a start for anyone who wants to start investing in the stock market... index funds or a specific stock.

I've had my money in a high yield for over a year now and it's currently at 5.5% interest with no minimum to receive a couple hundred dollars, and FDIC. Strongly backed so no concerns about losing my money and no strict on pulling large amounts of money out like I've seen with other banks. DM me if you're interested and I can share details on who I use.

Because these no name banks hold your money hostage. CIT will let you move large sums of money per month. That no name bank most likely only allows you to transfer out several thousands of dollars PER MONTH. When you have large amounts of money it's no good. You'd be stuck in that bank.
