Platinum Savings is a tiered interest rate account. Interest is paid on the entire account balance based on the interest rate and APY in effect that day for the balance tier associated with the end-of-day account balance.

APYs — Annual Percentage Yields are accurate as of September 3, 2024:

0.25% APY on balances of $0.01 to $4,999.99;

5.00% APY on balances of $5,000.00 or more.

Interest Rates for the Platinum Savings account are variable and may change at any time without notice. The minimum to open a Platinum Savings account is $100.

I've been banking with them for nearly 5 years. No major problems. My only issue is that their phone app is severely limited & kind of sucks. Other than that, if you send money, it arrives quickly & interest rates automatically raise without having to contact them. They seem to stay pretty competitive when it comes to the highest interest rate. I really like them & trust them with my money.

UPDATE: As of 06 NOV 23, the app on Android has been updated and reflects a top tier online banking experience. Very happy with the improvements that have been made.
You have more issues than just missing out on $10k!
Have been banking with them for many years. No issues, fast transfers, can manage everything online including closing accounts. Only negative is that their phone support sucks since they encourage online banking only, and they keep adding new account types with higher rates, and you have to open an account and transfer money to new account (which is pretty painless and done within minutes online)

Yes, it does.

It has not in my experience and this why I'm canceling. ApparentlyI need to chase the high interest with these guys. Also their transaction speed has been very slow for me so if I need to pull money out of the account for big purchases it's taken more than a week for me sadly.

Never had an issue with the raises being automatic. Transactions take 2-3 days when I do them. Sucks that it didn't work out, but they have been my go to bank for savings for a while now.

Glad you're having a good experience. I understand not everyone's experience is the same, just sharing mine. Last I called them about increasing my interest rate they said I needed to open a new account, and the most recent bank transfer I needed to make to buy a new car took 6 business days to clear unfortunately. I nearly missed out on the car because of that

Kind of a pain to open an account. I'd recommend SoFi, slightly lower Apr but super slick portal. Find a friend to refer you for a referral bonus.

I agree, I wouldn't recommend opening a bank with CIT, also their customer service is terrible, and took 5 days to transfer a down payment for a vehicle. ALLY BANK IS MUCH BETTER

do you have to maintain a 5k minimum balance? Also how much max can be withdrawn at one time? I'm guessing they're not affiliated with Citibank. There is a local bank in my city offering 5.10 with no minimum. They offer the same to residents of the state too.

I have used this for several months now and can speak to my experience. I would recommend provided you understand what you are getting and arent getting. You are getting a high interest rate with limited customer support. If you want strong customer support, you will have to pay for that and accept a lower interest rate, about 3/4% less from Ally, Marcus, ... That said, the first few times, it took a few days to get money transferred in and get credited to my account. Now it happens about a day longer than other places. They move money at the end of the day, whereas most banks move it at the beginning of the day. That adds one more day, so plan on having your account credited about 2 days later than other banks. You start getting interest about 1 day later than other banks, after the first few deposits. I have used customer support just once - they responded in a day and took care of the issue in about a week. You have to decide whether it is worth it to you. For me, I havent found anywhere that pays such a high rate that I can functionally use it as a checking account (with only ACH transfers). It is paying me a lot more money than my prior checking account.

I highly recommend CIT. I'm bias having worked there back when they were Indymac. They are legit, but the interface is lagging. They did just upgrade it. I did refi my mortgage with them 5 years ago back when rates were low, and they gave me the best rate at that point. No issues with the bank. This is savings, so as long as you don't withdraw more than 6 times any given month, you will be taken care of. CIT generally geared towards wealthier crowd, and the service is great. You can always call and speak to a live agent that would be in Pasadena office. Ask me if anyone has any questions.
This is incorrect. Pre-pandemic, the govt had a rule that savings accts had a limit of 6x withdrawals a month. They removed that rule and let individual banks decide on the limit. So some banks still have that limit. CIT does not have any limits. I have verified it.

It's like 250K all the way upto 1 million a month, so you don't have to worry about that.

I never understood why some banks can do a large ach transfer limit while others can't.

My question is why does CITBank requires $5000 for this savings account? While other banks that have 5% don't.

Because they want you to deposit money, so they can lend it…

If you have $0.01-$4,999, you get the rate of 0.25% APY. If you have $5,000 or more, you get 5.05% APY.

Think of it as tiered interest rate, not a blended interest rate account.

Which would be why their FAQ calls it tiered. Smilie

This here is a pretty bad deal, especially if you have state with income tax.
Just buy treasuries instead. It is super easy at Fidelity and you can auto-roll when they mature.

Or if treasuries sounds too complex you can buy VUSXX (Vanguard Treasury Money Market Fund). Current yield is 5.1% and it is state tax exempt.

Or if all of the above sounds too complex, you can just open Vanguard brokerage account. All your unused cash is automatically invested in VMFXX (Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund) with current yield 5.09%. Note that this is not 100% state tax exampt, so you will have to do some math come tax time.

Because these no name banks hold your money hostage. CIT will let you move large sums of money per month. That no name bank most likely only allows you to transfer out several thousands of dollars PER MONTH. When you have large amounts of money it's no good. You'd be stuck in that bank.

BlackRock isn't exactly no-name, but point taken.

I tried to open an account with wealthfront a little while ago, around a year and after I started the process a lot of red flags started going off with the services I use to track my online identity. I called wealthfront to ask about it and they literally yelled DO NOT CALL BACK, then hung up on me. Obviously I tried to call back and get a different rep and the same thing happened again, at least this time there was no yelling. On the third try I spun a bit of a sob story and asking what the heck was going on, so the rep hesitantly said you account has been flagged for fraud... then hung up on me. They really don't like being found out.

It was a pretty jarring experience I am not happy they got all of my personal information but i am glad I didn't put any significant amount of money into their accounts.
