I got this a few years ago and really like it. I've used it during power outages to charge devices and even power my modem and router to still get internet
Same, even worked great through a 36-hour outage this past spring. I had other generators and battery power stations for powering chest freezer, aquarium, and other larger items, but nice to have something very small and portable on the tabletop for small electronics, and that can easily swap out another battery.

The newer one with the USB-C has more features, yes, so if same price, sure. But really the last thing I really need is yet ANOTHER way to charge up 18V ONE+ batteries from the wall.

Can someone explain the pure sine wave converter stuff? I read that pure sine wave (more expensive than modified sine wave) provides clean power and is needed for delicate equipment such as medical equipment, laptops, etc.

So does that mean that if I were to use this inverter on my laptop, it could damage my laptop? Does it damage the battery or the entire hardware? I'm assuming it's not an immediate failure of system if used once in an emergency.
Reasonably good lay person summary here:
https://www.lifewire.com/pure-sin...ers-534758

TLDR: No. Your laptop doesn't care since the power is being converted by the power brick from AC to DC.

Honest question because I've never noticed before - why is your post here that is essentially just repeating the OP's info?

Thank you. I read it. Here's a quick summary of when you will need it:
Highly recommended:
—delicate piece of medical equipment

Highly recommended to reduce damages due to inefficiencies
—device has a motor (fridge, microwave, compressor)

Not necessary:
—device has a rectifier or AC/DC adapter (laptops, cellphone chargers)

After doing some research on different models of 150W power source, this is what I found. The one in OP's post(Model # RYi150BG) can act as a power source only to charge the laptop or provide power via USB, but cannot be used as a charger to reverse charge Ryobi battery. Another newer version(Model # RYi150CBT), also more expensive, has one additional feature to reverse charge Ryobi battery with a USB C port.
Yes, the ability to charge via USB-C (I think max 30 watts) and recharge the Ryobi batteries makes the new one better. It also includes a nice wall dual usb-c and usb-a charger and usb-c cable. The new one has gone on sale a few times with a 2ah battery at direct tools for $65.

If you're fine with 120W vs 150W, these are arguably more flexible for roughly the same amount.
1) Similar 120W inverter with AC, USB-A, AND USB-C https://www.ryobitools.com/produc...6396035370

2) 120W inverter with automotive connections https://www.ryobitools.com/produc...6396035363
Isn't that first one DC only? I'm has a 120W DC port but no mention of AC power and I don't see AC outlet. Looks nice, if it meets your needs, but is not an inverter.

Been wanting one for a while. Ended up finding one of these on the side of the road only a little banged up. Posted on my local socials to see if anyone was looking for it but still haven't heard back.

Thanks. I'll have to keep an eye out for a direct tools deal. I see them pop up once in a while but never saw a listing for the inverter. I've been holding out for one of the newer models.

Oh, and for the 300w inverter that uses 40v batteries since I have a few of those. It does pure sine wave.

To make matters even more confusing Ryobi also has this 120w inverter. The only one I have ever used but is pretty cool because it works off a Ryobi battery or from a car 12v plug.

I don't think there is a way to charge a Ryobi battery though.

Just as an FYI I have the newer one of these with USB-C and I planned to use is to power a small fan. The fan motor makes an awful noise when I plug it into this. Will it damage it? No idea.. but that's one downside to the sine wave thing.

This is straight from the article:

"The primary category of devices that run more efficiently with a pure sine wave inverter is electronics that use AC motors, like refrigerators, compressors, and microwave ovens. They'll still work in most cases, but perhaps not as efficiently, which may lead to excess heat buildup and possible damages."

Based on that quote, I think pure sine wave inverter is more applicable to appliances that require a fan to dissipate heat. For example, if using modified sine wave inverter on a fridge, the fan would not run as intended (due to inefficient energy transfer) leading to poor heat dissipation > heat buildup > damaged fridge. So I don't think using this item would damage your fan. I'm assuming the fan just won't run as fast or may have some sudden pauses?? I'm speculating here. I could be wrong.
