Exactly. Those patches I'm sure have some kind of meaning, but for me they look awful. These will sit until they go under $20.

Anyone know how hard it is to remove the patches with a seam ripper? Shoes look fine once removed?

Exactly. Those patches I'm sure have some kind of meaning, but for me they look awful. These will sit until they go under $20.

They also could be the kind that are applied with heat, meaning they could possibly leave a adhesive residue. I can't tell if they are just sewn on or adhesive with stitches. Either way the stitches also may leave an uglier spot on the shoes

They are paisley patches upon closer inspection in a larger image. They do resemble beans from a distance. I still think they are cute but I need a 6.5 and they don't have it. The last pair of converse I bought I sold Bc they made me look like I was wearing clown shoes I think they all run big regardless of what it says. A seven is more like an 8, way too big for me considering I can sometimes wear a 6.5

So, while I agree the patches aren't for everyone, we bought these a few months ago for my MIL, who walks dogs and does home care and training. A few things we noted:

1) The shoes run a bit large, so if you have wider feet you can go true to size, but if not you may want to size down.

2) The colors are different in person, and lean more toward fall tones rather than the odd browny-purple and yellow that shows on some screens (keep in mind this may also vary batch to batch? I base this on a moderate knowledge of threads and materials but ZERO knowledge of shoe color production, sorry)

3) Tested for those who asked—those paisley patches seem to be on there very securely, and I think the stitching being removed would damage the canvas.

4) MIL has walked more than 100miles in these over the last 3 months and they've held up really well, even in the grossness that is Florida.

TL;DR: the colors are weird but the shoes hold up well and accommodate wider feet while still being questionably fashionable.
