Should be obvious but this is not a knife that you are going to keep for 5, 10, 15 years. Probably do some deburring on it but not sharping with a stone. A better quality knife if going to run $150-$200 and that will be much thicker, easier to handle and last your lifetime. I have 2 of these and they are good knives but just keep in mind that they are a little on the thin side and probably will only last a year or two.
What are you even talking about, why wouldn't you sharpen on a stone? I give my Victorinox knives a few passes over the stone every week or two and they're still razor sharp after 5+ years

Same - I've been looking for recommendation on sharpening tool(s) for the knives that doesn't end up an expensive rabbit hole. Just want something dependable and idiot proof. Smilie

can anyone say specifically what is the real appeal of this victorinox?
from what ive been seeing people repeat what others have said, but can anyone give a more definitive answer to why this brand of knife is a cut above the rest?

Here's the sharpener that I used last night to sharpen mine. [amazon.com]
I have much nicer sharpening systems but this one is quick and easy to use.

Not a bad knife or deal, but there's very little an 8" chef's knife can't do that a 6" can. There's plenty a 6" knife can't do that an 8" can.
That's what she said😒

Cheap, they come sharp, decent quality metal, can throw in dishwasher. Nobody is saying that Victorinox is the best, but they are good and have high utility. Same for Dexter-Russell and Mercer.
