I own a Shun Ken Onion chefs knife and this Victorinox knife. I use the Victorinox knife almost exclusively. It is much lighter, makes finer cuts, and is very easy to sharpen. On the other hand, it does not look nearly as cool.

The angled handle allows you to chop with it without destroying your knuckles. For general kitchen prep, this is nearly all you really need. I would also take a look at the Ikea 365+ 6" knife for $18 - a phenomenal value in a knife made from top quality knife steel. You can get a set that includes one larger and one smaller knife for $44.

Ikea 365 is such a great knife for a small price.

Damn so ignorant. This knife line and it's accompanying reputation existed before SD.
What a rude comment. By your logic everyone should just know this already!?! Lmao. Given SDs over sponsored posts now a days the question was valid from someone unfamiliar with the brand.
To RobD this company is well established and known for their Swiss army knives among other products. Their chefs knives are highly regarded and used frequently even in commercial kitchens. This is a good price

Anyone actually used this knife or just all SD staff?
I bought this exact knife about 5 years ago, it has become my daily go-to knife in the kitchen. Very versatile, great quality. Get a whetstone to sharpen it, and it will serve you well for many years to come.

Ha! I owned a set of Shun Ken Onion knives too and sold them to purchase the Victorinox. If they are in good condition, you can sell the Shuns on Ebay for crazy prices. I sold mine for double what I paid new.
I have one of these and it is my go-to knife. The blade was very sharp when new but has worn down noticeably over the past couple of years. I have used a cheap sharpener on it a few times, which does the trick for a short while. I'm not an expert on kitchen knives but my experience with this particular blade has been good.

I have the 8" version and love it. I hone it real quick before each use and I throw it in the dishwasher all the time. Sharpen it like once or twice a year. Haven't had any issues.
