As what always comes up guys, please know what you're buying - this is "Zen 3" architecture, not "Zen 3+" (hence the DDR4), and is manufactured using TSMC 7nm, the same node that manufactured their ryzen 5700u, though this chip is a lot more efficient.
Still wayyyyy better than the 7520u AMD kept trying to shove down our throats through laptops, and this one was released Jan 2023. More efficient than most laptop chips out there, so this could be a good bet.
"Ideapad" is holding me back though bc that's their plastic lineup.
It's a tossup, really. Can't complain for an 15.6" 1080p IPS 300-nit display, though it could be better.

I want a decent and fairly priced amd 7x4x laptop, but they don't seem to exist. The only laptops with those chips are really expensive gaming machines with dedicated gpu anyway.
Why isn't there a laptop equivalent to the Asus Ally at the same price?

The Zen 4 laptops are just now trickling out, and - pretty typical for a desirable new tech product - it's rolling out on the more expensive laptops first. I think you'll need to wait to around end of this year to see more affordable options, though my guess is more like $700 and not $500.

And that 5700U was really just a rebrand / refresh of the 4500U, also built on 7nm.

This one seems alright to me, but idk.
That HP Victus laptop (https://slickdeals.net/f/16814699-hp-victus-15-6-laptop-ryzen-5-7535hs-fhd-144hz-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-rtx-2050-520-free-s-h) seemed to be at the time the best (not particularly for gaming) purchase, but there have been a few other deals out since, for better laptops with better gaming capabilities.

Does this have the typical Lenovo hinges that break easily? Or did they finally resolve that issue?

Anyone know if this will perform well with one of those drawing pads you connect through the HDMI? Want to get something to replace my niece's old laptop so she can draw again. She's using a Chinese brand drawing pad from Amazon with a backlight display. Thanks in advanced!

That's a feature not a con.

If you don't care about the extra 1 years offer from Costco. I would get the IdeaPad Slim 5 (16" AMD) - Abyss Blue directly from Lenovo for $545 - cashback on certain sites will bring it to ~$500.
Same Spec w/ bigger battery 56 WHr, 1080p webcam, better build quality meaning Slim 5 metal housing w/ half a lb more in weight compared to a lighter plastic feeling on Slim 3.

Yes, there are other offers from Bestbuy, so just pick what you need that matches your requirement.
Especially the HP Victus deals w/ better CPU/GPU/Screen refresh, stock 8 GB of ram that can be upgraded to 16 GB or more (an extra 8GB can be had for $20-30 from Amazon), and If you don't mind the 5lbs weight,

Lenovo also has stacking coupons "extra5" and "buymorelenovo" that take that model to $492 (before CB). Definitely slicker than OP!
